As always, when installing a fuel filter, open you gas cap before removing the old filter, and put a large pan underneath the filter unless you are OK with gas hitting the area underneath the truck. There is pressure in the line, and when you break the nuts free around the old filter it will release pressure, then the line / filter will drain residual gas. The fuel filter is located directly under the driver door along the underside of the truck.
Also, after installation, reinstall the gas cap, but DON'T just start up the vehicle,as there obviously is air in the line due to the new filter being put in dry. If you try to "dry start" the vehicle with air in the lines / pump, the engine will crank repeatedly without firing, and this is never good for the fuel system and the injectors.
What you want to do to instead to prime the lines and pump is to turn the key, but DO NOT TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY SUCK THAT IT STARTS THE VEHICLE! Just turn the key such that the accessories come on, and power is enabled to the dash / components but not starting the car. When you turn the key, you will hear the "click, click" of the fuel pump priming the line, then shut the key off. Do this four or five times (turning the key but NOT starting the vehicle, turning the key off) until you no longer hear the clicking of the pump - then it is OK to start the vehicle, and it will start right up.
This was a quality part, direct match replacement for the fuel filter already on the truck. I try to get these replaced every 20-30K or 3-4 years, whichever comes first.
Thanks for reading.
With that being said, I managed to change the fuel filter myself! It really wasn't all that bad, and didn't take nearly as long as I had expected. What made it easy? This part was an exact fit for my vehicle. It was clearly labeled with the in/out fittings and made changing out the filter very easy. The part was a true ACDelco part and has functioned wonderfully in my 2000 Suburban.
I would highly recommend the ACDelco brand for your next car part. Not only are the made extremely well, but they fit exactly as expected.
Sure enough it fit just fine. Though the filter that was on it was a GF-626! Which was the Original on my truck. I guess there has been a Number change. Just to make sure once again, I checked directly from ACDelco for a fuel filter for my Truck. You can check it out here [...] and then click on Parts Catalog!! Anyway sure enough it also shows the GF652 fuel filter for my truck!!!
It's a filter, what's to say? ACDelco filters are quality filters. Can't go wrong with installing another O.E. filter onto your Car/Truck! Since I changed out the Cooled in my truck for the first time in the 7 years I've had it, the Dex-Cool coolant still looked great. I drained and changed the coolant with a 50/50 blend coolant, so I wouldn't have to use tap water, or have to buy Distilled Water!!! This is how you get coolant to last a long time. Not Contaminating with Tap Water!!! Anyway, Did Coolant change, Oil change, Oil Filter change, Fuel Filter Change and Air filter change. I have about 39,000 miles on my truck. Normal Maintenance type stuff. It's on it's 3rd AC Compressor, so AC system is Good, New belts when that work was done.
Change them often - although I hate that GM put these filters in-line! I mean really? Prepare for some knuckle busting stripped nuts if you're in the northeast or have to deal with salt on the roads.
IMPORTANT!!
Before performing any work on a fuel system be sure to consult the appropriate maintenance manual for your vehicle. This is gasoline and the line feeding the engine is pressurized - you will have to consult your repair manual for instructions on how to depressurize the fuel system.
Try this - get a pair of vise-grip plyers DO NOT TURN THE NUT WITH THESE! close the grips so you're squeezing on two flat spots on the nut. When you close them, they should be extremely tight. Turn the grips to two different flats on the nut, and repeat. Spray penetrating fluid on the nut and allow it to soak in for a few moments. Use a wire brush on the exposed threads of the nut. Repeat the penetrant/wire-brush method several more times until the nut is clean. Wipe down the area and, while holding the fitting on the filter, turn the tube-nut counter-clockwise. If the tube turns with the nut STOP! Repeat the vise-grips/penetrant/wire-brush process until you can safely turn the nut without twisting the tube.
BE SURE TO USE THE CORRECT SIZE WRENCH. Don't try this with crescent wrenches. If you can rent or borrow a set of line wrenches - these are preferred - but if not, regular wrenches will work fine.
