I have fig trees and the birds do luh-huuuv those figs. Wouldn't share with me at all, so we used PVC piping to make a tall frame to put over the fig tree out back. We used plastic ties to secure the netting to the frame, cut the length to fit, with just enough to pool at the bottom, used what was cut off for the sides of the frame and for the past two years, it has done a great job and would have lasted at least couple more years, but the netting on one end got sucked into the mower and that was all she wrote! Even so, it only wrecked that end of the netting, so we attached a 14' x 14' net to fill in for the part we had to cut off and the protection is back in action. The new netting will take its place next year and the large part that's left will be put to use elsewhere.
The mower is fine, but you should have seen the netting that was caught in it. No way in this universe is there a way to untangle it once it gets caught in the mower--or the weed-eater. Yes, that happened as well--before we made the frame. The frame has small hooks in the uprights to hold the netting up off the ground for weed-eating and mowing, if hubby would get me out there to raise the netting. (I have a feeling he will definitely do that in the future...) There are two 14' x 14' nets over the fig tree out front, as well.
I love this netting. Wouldn't want to do without it. Yes, it snags on EVERYTHING snaggable and I've learned to never wear anything with buttons on it when I'm picking figs, or working with the netting, but it is very strong and does the job very well.
It use this bird netting to cover my young blueberry bushes. It works perfectly. Not even the two storms we have had since it installed the netting, blew it off. I am very happy with this product.
However, special attention should be given to how you place the sections, which hang over your frame. I did it wrong. I merely stretched the net over my lattice fence elements and left it at that. I certainly did not want to trim off pieces; after all, I hope that the berry bushes will grow taller.
Unfortunately a black racer snake must have decided to take the “shortcut through the netting”, and wiggled herself more and more into the netting. She strangled herself. I regret this because these snakes are excellent natural pest control, they hunt mice.
Having learned from this I now roll up the extra netting material so that is not going to happen again. Besides that it is sad that the snake strangled herself, it is also really unpleasant, discovering a 4 foot dead snake in the morning, especially when one is still a little tired and does not recognize that the snake is dead, after first glance.

At first we tried the usual tricks: a fake owl, moving objects blowing in the wind, etc. The blue jays laughed at us, and kept right on gobbling down tomatoes. They even pooped on the head of the fake owl (so much for that deterrent).
Then we bought the BirdBlock netting, and covered our plants with it. Success! It was like an anti-bird force field. It was definitely a bit of a pain to handle (it snags on everything, although you can yank it free easily enough), but once it was over the plants and the railing around the plants, the blue jays were out of luck. They'll have to work for their supper from now on - no more free banquets at our house.
This is a good product, and worth every penny if you want to protect your garden from flying thieves. The mesh is sturdy, but does not block sunlight or water. We will definitely be using it again next year.
