Product Description
Amazon.com
Looking for a total body workout but you're on a budget? The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE offers a compact total-body workout solution that allows you to perform over 70 exercises. It includes a Lat Tower that adjusts to two positions, leg extension for developing strong, muscular legs, an abdominal crunch shoulder harness to help you build strong, defined abs, and a 4-position lower pulley/squat station that helps in building your glutes, hamstrings, and quads. Other features include 210 pounds of Power Rod resistance, a no-change cable pulley system, an ergonomic adjustable seat with polyurethane cushion, and 5-way hand grip/ankle cuffs. The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE is backed by a full 6-month warranty.
The Xtreme 2 SE utilizes Bowflex's patented Power Rods, which provide resistance, or weight, that feels as good as or better than free weights--but without the inertia or risk of joint pain usually associated with free weights. You can hook one, two, three, four or all of your Power Rod units to the cable pulley system and go from as little as 5 pounds all the way up to 210 pounds of resistance (can be upgraded to 410 pounds). They're precisely manufactured from a high-tech composite material under the highest quality control measures, then sheathed and tested 4 separate times to ensure quality and durability. The Power Rod units are so strong, you can flex them repeatedly but you won't be able to wear them out.

1) fits a small space in the house.
2) easy to assemble and only took a couple hours.
3) has a wealth of different exercises.
4) very good machine for most kids and women.
5) operates smoothly and thus far appears to be pretty stout.
6) easy to switch apparatus when changing the exercise.
7) beats having to pay gym fees for a family when you pencil it out. This assumes you have plenty of outside areas to get cardiovascular exercise in.
Downside of the gym;
1) For those in good shape and/or lift a lot of weight your going to find the exercises are very easy. I'm just guessing but the bench press at 210 lbs on the machine feels like about 130-140 lbs for free weights. So we intend to upgrade with another 100 lbs for the machine which will add a little to the final cost.
2) For smaller kids, less than about 5 ft, some of the basic exercises won't provide a full range of motion (e.g. overhead press). We solved that by placing a 8 inch piece of wood on the seat when out youngest is using the gym.
3) We didn't like doing squats with the machine, all prefered using our squat rack and free weights.
Overall - Nice system despite some of the drawbacks. The machine has and will get much use in our house.
If you liked this, you never had a good machine.
The way the preacher curl hooks in...be careful not to trip over as you get into the wire maze...if you get your legs to close to cables, it will hurt.
Tangled cables...80 percent of the time...very true.
This machine was made for profit...not for serious lifters or those looking for big results, you may get tone, never big without add on bench weights
Only took 5 months to get preacher curl...then...you can't connect it properly because the hole that the big screw goes through to attach support bracket...it's not there! Yep...get out the drills if you want the bracket mounted like they say.
You can tell this machine is a product of japan...no buy.

The refurbished machine saves you money, but it might not be completely worth it. Mine was missing pieces. Amazon could only send another full machine, and they didn't have any at the time. I was directed to Bowflex and they sent out the pieces for no charge, after verifying the purchase. But it took over a week to get them.
The rods really do seem used. When I bought the machine I bought the 310 and 410 resistance upgrades. Those rods are straighter than the ones that came with this. After being tied together with the included strap they straighten up, but only for the first few exercises. Then they stay bowed. And just the weight of the cables and pulleys will pull two 10 pound rods almost halfway down.
The machine is very sturdy and seems to give a good workout, despite the bowing rods. The resistance is not the same as actual weights. But for someone who is just trying to get in shape, that really doesn't matter. As long as you can feel your muscles working, and keep improving you are doing good.
The included workout poster is good. It has two groups of exercises so you can grow with the machine from the start.
If I was to do it again, and had the money, I would buy new over refurbished. But I would buy this machine again. When I miss a workout, I feel bad that I didn't spend time with the machine. In the month I have been using the machine three times a week with the beginning exercises I have lost about 10 pounds. My waist has also shrunk 1-1.5 inches, and I "seem" to have more energy.
Shipping/Delivery Debacle
A little bit of irony here... the Bowflex comes in 5 boxes and according to the warnings on the boxes, should be shipped together, with the same carrier. Well, one of the boxes (the smallest one) ended up in the hands of a different carrier. This carrier thought they had a package weighing over 250 lbs to deliver; so they were quite adamant in speaking to me on the phone before delivering it (understandably so, why waste all that effort if no one is home?). That made for an awkward moment when this big semi came to drop off this tiny little box and the delivery driver was totally mystified, wondering where the rest of it was.
The other 4 boxes happened to come the same day, from the other carrier (who never actually called to setup a drop off time). This carrier operated out of a completely different city than the one above.
Instructions
The instructions are somewhat adequate in figuring out how to put it together. There were a number of steps where information was missing, such as when to tighten bolts completely (some areas it was clear when and what to tighten completely and other areas they say finger tighten but fail to tell you when to tighten all the way; and considering the multitude of warnings about making sure things are tight before using or you could break the machine or hurt yourself, you would think the effort would be made to make sure it was clear when to tighten stuff --- especially when the machine is together, some bolts are harder to get to).
The manual also failed to point out what to do with all of the clips (only a few were mentioned), although it would be obvious to most were they are hooked onto.
Initially, it can also be a bit difficult to get enough slack to connect power rods or the leg lift attachment. After some time, you get comfortable with how to manipulate the machine.
