From the manufacturer
Brother Walking Foot for Quilting and Sewing Multiple Layers, SA107, White
The walking foot is a moving feed system that holds and moves fabric between the presser foot's upper feed dog and the machines's lower feed dogs to better control difficult fabrics as well as multiple layers of fabric. The walking foot is good for quilting, sewing when matching prints or plaids or fabric drift is an issue. Brother offers several Walking Feet which differ in the size of the feed dog, shank height etc. Walking Feet are not for use in reverse or side to side sewing as well as some built in stitches that include other than forward movement of the feed dogs.

The directions say that the foot only works with stitch lengths of 5 mm. (That would be 5 stitches to the inch.) I found that it actually works fine with several different stitch lengths, but I preferred the smaller stitches. (My machine, which is a Brother XL-2600 has a stitch regulator that measures 4-3-2-1 where "1" is the smallest stitch. With this walking foot, my best results were at about "2", but it worked fine even at 4.)
I have only started quilting recently, although I have been sewing for many years. A quilter friend told me that this type of foot is essential, and I unfortunately didn't follow her advice soon enough. Big mistake! This foot is wonderful. It moves the fabric along as you sew, and the underside doesn't bunch up or gather. It's also good for layers of fabric when you're matching plaids. There is a list on Amazon's page of the Brother models it fits. Be sure to buy this genuine Brother foot, not the cheap knockoff. It's a great accessory to have!

That being said, this OEM Brother walking foot, purchased from Amazon.com, is fantastic for my low shank xr-9000 Brother machine. This and the SA140 are interchangeable, so don't worry about getting one over the other. The only main difference I can see is that the SA107 comes with an extra short needle screw. I didn't need it and it doesn't fit my particular machine model. The foot alone works wonderfully to stabilize my quilt sandwich and allow me to stitch beautiful straight lines without problems.
Again, if you purchase from a Amazon Merchant seller and they try and pull a fast one on you, don't stand for it. This page is for a Brother OEM product. Not an off brand knock off from China that I can go to a vendor at the garment district and get for $3.
