As far as the softer, more pliable rubber, that could either be because the OEM one is now 10 years old and the rubber has become hard and brittle (thus the cracking and failure of my OEM one at those bulging flexible ring areas) or it could be that it is made of thinner or softer material. Either way, I don;t see any problem with the softer material. It should not flex under vacuum, and of course Honda Accords are not boosted from the factory, so I see no issues.
I DO NOT like the idea of replacing the nice factory metal clamp with the spring...the spring was a two-man, two plier affair to install it after the intake hose was installed. I looked at installing the spring on the intake hose BEFORE installation, but it was a tight fit as it was with a lot of friction...I used some windshield washer fluid as a lube to slip it on. WW fluid isn't really slippery, but it created just enough lubricity with the moisture to allow me to slip it on, and WW fluid is completely harmless to your intake / engine and is the same as methanol injection fluid used on diesels and boosted cars (it is methanol and purified water as long as you don't use the bug wash stuff, just use the plain blue stuff). I would buy one again if needed since it does the job and is cheap, but an OEM style one with proper clamps and without the cheesy spring would be easier to install. My photos show the new one as well as the OEM one (top) vs. the new one (bottom) so you can see the cheesy spring tensioner vs. the OEM metal clamp.

ch the clamps and then finally slide the end to the engine and screw the clamp down. It took me 30 minutes to complete the entire job.

ch the clamps and then finally slide the end to the engine and screw the clamp down. It took me 30 minutes to complete the entire job.
Others have noted that the material is not as firm as the OEM version. That’s true. However, that is not to say that the tube is flimsy. It may very well hold up as well as the OEM. Time will tell. Some have pointed out that one end of the hose has a spring instead of a clamp like the original. Note that the OEM version now also uses a spring. Dorman does provide the spring. I found it easier to warm up the spring end of the tube with a hair dryer, connect the spring ends, and manipulate it on to the tube. I then put a little silicone lubricant on the inside edge of the tube so that it would, with a little effort, slide on to the the air box more easily. It may take a couple of tries but the spring will stretch and it will finally slide on.
This same Dorman tube sells for just under $42.00 at a local parts store, so Amazon has a very good price. There are other brands of this tube found on Amazon sold by other vendors at suspiciously low prices. I would not trust them and they do not appear to come with the required spring. Dorman, on the other hand, is a known brand.
