My old charger issues - I had purchased an Energizer 4 battery AA, AAA charger that I fought with for over a year. Sometimes it accepted the batteries, most of the time it didn’t. When trying to get one out, it would fling others at me. We had about 16-20 batteries, that for some reason or other, it decided it wouldn’t charge anymore. I was handling every battery at least 3 times (meter, charger, meter) and that was only if it actually worked! I’d put it in a different slot and 1 out of 50 times it would take it. It also plugged directly into the outlet and took up the other plugs as well so it permanently made the whole outlet inaccessible. GAH!
I bought THIS CHARGER and OMG. The sky lit up, the angels sang, and in about 20-30 minutes it charged EIGHT of the batteries the other little vehicle of Satan wouldn’t. I nearly cried, I was so happy. It also has a meter for each battery terminal (8 of them!) so I no longer need a separate device to measure each one before and after charging. If 1 battery finishes charging quickly, I can take that one out and pop another in and not disturb the other 7.
All the batteries my husband said we’re probably dead and throw out (hello recycling/landfill, money, waisted hours of trying to charge) were actually fine.
If I sound a little overly excited it’s because batteries had become the bane of my existence (I know, first world problems). This charger has simplified the process beyond what I even hoped for since it had the built in meters. It charges more types of batteries than my old crappy one and so much faster! It also has a USB cord so it doesn’t take up ALL the plugs in the outlet. I’ve actually gained an entire outlet in my kitchen because it stays in a drawer until I need it where the other one was a permanent fixture.
BUY IT NOW.
What I really hate though is how hard it is to get the spring open with one hand, because I'm usually trying to pop the batteries in quickly. Additionally, you have to get the battery lined up just exactly for it to charge, and that takes a lot of moving it, trying it this way, trying it that way. The charger works well, it's just not a quick one-handed thing, you actually have to focus and use both hands and look carefully every time you put batteries in.
So now here I am reviewing this one as the replacement
Pros -
Price. At 19 bucks it was in my range.
Versatility is much better than my last charger that only did AA and AAA. I can now charge C and D batteries in addition and I do have something that will need C batteries. Yay!
Can charge only one battery at a time unlike previous charger that needed them in pairs
Has a display showing state of charge
USB C charging and it is working great so far. (I haven't compared micro USB vs USB C charging speeds)
Cons -
-I worry about plugging and unplugging USB C, wearing out the port as I don't like leaving it plugged in(wasting energy or potential fire hazard). I'm not sure how you solve this.
-I worry about unplugging and plugging in zapping this charger like my last one when the power supply got removed suddenly.
I've got some EBL C batteries on the way so I may or may not need to revisit this review on how well it charges a bigger battery(potential heat issues, takes too long to charge, etc).
Edit** customer service reached out after my post and sent me a new product then reached out to make sure it was working okay.
