Phones, laptop computers, cable modems, routers, LAN switches, DVRs, or just about any digital device, all run on 5-20 volt, low amperage, DC power which is obtained by down-stepping from 120 volt, high amperage, AC electricity. This is done with a transformer (and an AC to DC diode bridge and other components.) It is common for the transformers and plugs to be combined in one unit. The added expense of an AC cord, and it's mountings and connectors, are completely avoided, helping to keep the cost competitive, and improving on safety. Only the low power DC needs to be conveyed from the output of the transformer unit to the DC input of the device. However, this creates a problem because the transformers tend to be bulky, and there is no standard way of orienting the integrated transformer/plugs (and sockets) so that nearby sockets are not blocked.
These short extension cords are the perfect, convenient, right-sized and economical solution.
I bought these on sale at $15.99, but would still buy them again at the current price of $19.99, if I needed any more.
If you have any problems, I would follow up the comments concerning non-UL approval and possible counterfeiting. I have mixed feelings about mechanisms, while intended to protect consumers, being used, instead, to overcharge and create inflated and undeserved profits. It is absolutely true that higher prices create a compelling incentive for manufacturers and seller to observe safety rules, consumer protections, intellectual property rights, etc., lest they lose their profits. However, if more competitive prices allow workers in a location with a lower cost of living to pull themselves out of poverty, then who are we to object? We all live on the same planet, operate in the same global economy, breath the same air, etc. What better way to help yourself and some impoverished family by buying a quality product at a cheaper price? At the same time, we need to know that such workers are treated well, have a safe workplace, and that the factory is non- polluting. Hence, the very mixed feelings.
That said, to my inexpert eye and feel, these cords are rugged, flexible, useful and safe.
To really take a different picture, I try to avoid 5 star ratings unless the product is exceptional. Undeserved good ratings only encourage overcharging. This product easily deserves 5 stars.
GAUGE
Personally I prefer 14 AWG (thicker copper wire) in an extension cord and power strip to match the actual gauge of the house wiring that will be 14 AWG for most normal circuits in the wall. A typical home circuit is likely to support 15A and 1500W. Usually that is from using a few high powered things at the same time. So in a single extension cord you are unlikely to use the entire circuit capacity in one application. This is why 16 AWG is typical in power strips and extension cords, and why I've accepted it in the Etekcity version. This one is UL tagged for 13A, more than any of my actual applications, except for my electric hot water kettle in the kitchen. I bet you if you weren't paying attention, your power strip likely has a 16 AWG cable of its own to the wall, so extensions from there will be no better. Drawing more power than rated from a thinner cable will cause more resistance in the wire, causing heat, and risk of fire or cable failure. That is why I usually just like to match my home circuit. For an air-conditioner I actually bought a 12 AWG extension cord to play it safe. I actually bought some Ziotek brand ones in the past that were 14 AWG. But this time I was satisfied to go with Etekcity's 16 AWG version.
STYLE
The actual plug end for these kind of thing usually come in different styles. Some are wall-hugging right angle and very flat so it can go behind a dresser pressed up against the wall instead of sticking out perpendicular to the wall. Some are right-angle connector that hang to the side off the power strip instead of perpendicular like these. Some of these even have pass-through plugs on the back where you can plug more on top or stack them. But sometimes you actually do want the straight plugs like these, which was the perfect application for what I was doing with them. All this is just preference and what orientation of plug will work best for what you want to do. Of course you can get different lengths too. For power-strip liberating purposes, 1 foot has always been great to me, and doesn't get in the way itself.
DRAWBACK?
One thing all of these kind of extensions have on them for compliance reasons is that huge white tag that says "do not remove". Now those tags do get in the way themselves. I expect that they do not intend for you to use your cable snips to cut the zip tie that holds it on.

-They all feel cool to the touch while multiple systems running.
-They work great with the Tripp Lite 1500VA UPS Back Up that I just purchased.
-And of course gives you cleaner hookups with the ability to organize cables due them being the same size.
The only idea I can think of that would make these better, and maybe there is already such a thing, but if the cables were successively larger in tandem by a couple of inches, so that when they hang at a 90 degree angle, all the socket ends are grouped closer together rather than laying on top of each other.

Very happy with them
El material es de buena calidad. Los cables son calibre 16AWG, son de 30 cm de longitud cada uno y soportan una corriente de hasta 13 A, suficiente para la mayoría de los dispositivos electrónicos.
