Terrible design. Only works occasionally, as the battery won't stay in place. The internal design is completely lacking in the necessary bracketing to keep the battery, pins, and motherboard in place securely. It's relatively easy to set up the 10 pins to their appropriate placement, but the key issue is that the electrical connection is broken when the product is moved--at all. The whole point of a keychain opener is that it needs to be stable when in motion. In my use, it wasn't even like I was jogging with it or something... picking it up off the kitchen counter was apparently enough to jar the battery out of place and then it wouldn't respond to pressing the button. Beyond that, even when physically holding the battery into connection, it sometimes just still wouldn't work for unknown reasons--despite the little red light lighting up, the garage door would only sporadically open.
For the record, I know that when I'm reading through reviews, I typically disregard the one-star reviewers because they seem to be irrational disgruntled people who can't use everyday products correctly (i.e., they seem like the people in black-and-white at the beginning of an infomercial, choking to death on a piece of bread or something). That's not the case here. I'm a relatively sane and levelheaded person of adequate intelligence who can, for instance, use a ladder without dying, fry eggs without setting the house ablaze, and can typically walk through life without spilling a yardsale of all my belongings around me whilst clumsily falling down the stairs. I mean, don't ask me to fold a fitted sheet or organize my tupperware, but like I'm a reasonably competent adult. And despite that, this product sucks.
srsly this product just sucks.
ITEM DETAILS: The item is grade A what I expected and hoped for. 300mhz, 10 switch, One button. A little more grey than what is pictured, but still a very light grey color casing. The battery has a plastic slip so it does not drain the tiny battery while in the mail. You will need a VERY small phillips screw driver to remove the one screw that holds it all together. Then you will be able to set the 10 switches to your unique code and then unplug the plastic battery safety slip to enable the battery. The switches are VERY small, so I used my mini screwdriver to pry apart the case, and then used it to set the switches. The keychain clasp is pretty durable it appears, I trust it on my key set.
GATE DISTANCE: The distance to get it to open my gate is around 4-5 lanes of traffic, so about 30 to 40 feet I'd guess (depending on the weather.) If you are looking for one of those long-range gate openers that you can smash way before having to slow down for the gate, you better do research because the 2 I have tried do not have huge range at all (both quality made 300mhz gate openers). So, It will open probably as I start to slow down as I approach the gate, but you know DMN well I will smash it plenty of times before I get to the gate (who wouldnt?) and it won't open really until I need to start to slow down.
#1 TIP*** Also...... one last thing. If the numbers do not work on your 10 switches.... TRY TO CHANGE THEM AROUND FROM OFF/ON. I got a set of numbers and they didn't work so I switched all the OFF numbers to ON (and on numbers to off) and BAM! it worked with the opposite numbers switched!
