From the manufacturer
This pan can do it all, from deep frying to bread baking
Use & Care
While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After cooking, we recommend cleaning with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap or the dishwasher is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately cleaning and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm.
Lodge L8CF3 Covered Chicken Fryer, Black
Pre-seasoned skillet is ready-to-use right out of the box
The black patina given to the cookware by the factory seasoning process is, in fact, vegetable oil that has been baked into a piece of cookware that has emerged from an individual sand mold. This coating of oil is a functional application and not a cosmetic application. The cookware is hanging as it rides through the electrostatic sprayer and commercial conveyer ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron which creates an easy release finish. As a result of this process, you may see a blister or bubble of oil at the southern-most point or at the end of the handle of the cookware piece. If visible, it will rub or flake off with your finger, leaving a brown spot. Don’t worry, it’s not rust but a seasoned spot that is brown, indicative of the varnish stage of seasoning. As a matter of fact, this is the color of home seasoned iron until it has been used several times. The brown spot will turn black with use.

Product Description
Product Description
Fried chicken is not the real thing unless it's cooked in cast iron. Cast iron gets hotter, stays hotter, and you can't beat it for the crispiest of crisp and the goldenest of golden fried favorites. This 3 qt chicken fryer is deeper than standard skillets 10 1/4" diameter, 3" deep. This 10-1/4” pan features two handles for heavy lifting and a cast iron cover. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, theses virtually indestructible cookware should last for generations. Made of cast iron, this pan evenly distributes heat from the bottom through the sidewalls. Sporting a stylish black color, the cast iron Skillet looks good in most kitchens and it doubles up as an excellent source of nutritional iron. Cast Iron, like your grandmother used, still ranks as one of the best cooking utensils ever made. It gives you a nearly non-stick surface, without the possible harmful fumes generated by preheating chemically treated nonstick cookware. The American-based company, Lodge, has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. The skillet dimensions are 16.56” x 10.5” x 3.06” and with cover on its 16.56” x 10.5” x 4.94”. Inside skillet dimensions is 10.25” wide and 3” deep.

Relive the vivid pleasure of childhood camping meals with this 3-quart cast-iron fryer with domed lid. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. Perfect for frying chicken, roasting potatoes, or baking cornbread, this 10-1/4-inch pan features tips on the underside of the lid that allow condensing liquids to drip and moisten the contents. While the skillet comes preseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. --Ann Bieri

For young people new to cooking, I recommend this item along with 2 ordinary Lodge skillets (say, 9 and 10 inches), and a round Lodge griddle with handle (perfect for making pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches). These 4 pieces will take care of many cooking needs.
For use & care, just Follow the Simple Directions provided, and don't overthink it. Never put cast iron in the dishwasher or the fridge. Wash and dry after each use. Lodge makes good stuff, and it will outlast you! I use my grandmother's 9-inch skillet nearly every day, and it's well over 100 years old - still works like new.
P.S. - The deep skillet is too narrow at the bottom to fit more than 2 or 3 chicken pieces; and the idea of deep-fried chicken is not how I was taught to do it. I use a low, wide, 12-inch nonstick pan (much lighter than cast iron) when I feel like being Col. Sanders.
If you are worried about how to clean, don't be. It's iron, so scrubbing it with soap and a stainless steel mesh scrubber is absolutely fine. Clean it, rinse it, dry it (on cooktop) and stow it away (in the oven itself if you are short in storage space). That's easy, isn't it?
With those said, I'll end my review with a word of warning, this piece is pretty heavy. It might be heavier than you have imagined. Please use both hands for good measures when moving it around.

Pros:
1) Food tastes great when cooked in this skillet
2) Food does not burns or stick.
3) 3-Quartz size is perfect for a meal of 2-3 people. It is deep enough to cook curry recipes. I generally make Indian curry recipes in this and have no complaints about the depth or size
4) The overall structure is very strong and durable, you can be sure that the quality is top class
5) The lid fits perfectly and if you are using the lid while cooking it captures the aroma of the food which makes the food to smell amazing
6)Affordable and long lasting if maintained properly
Cons:
1) A little heavy, not your normal cookware weight
2) If you are in general a lazy person, you should give it a thought before ordering this item because it takes a little effort in cleaning and maintaining the skillet. You cannot wash it in the dishwasher also you need to season it after every wash
3) The skillet lid I received has small rust spots, if you look closely at the pictures you will be able to tell. I have given 4 star because of that, apart from that I love this cookware
