WRONG! The actual height of the stand is 8 feet, three inches. My basement is 7 feet, 8 inches. I thought I would just return it, but once you attach the main pole to the base, you can't extract it -- at least, I couldn't. So plan B -- buy a hacksaw from Home Depot and take off 8 inches. Works great!!
But I recommend measuring your space....
ETA: After a few months of use, this stand is one of my favorite things in my studio. It speeds up my sessions bc it enables me to adjust my light for standing, seated, and laying down in seconds.
It's also upgraded the professional appearance of my studio. And my home-based unfinished basement studio needs all the help it can get...
You won't regret buying this.
There are three negatives to note - lack of sturdiness, the casters, and the shiny pole.
The stand isn't super sturdy. The metal tubing is about 2" in diameter and it sits on rolling casters making it just a bit wobbly. I've shot some slow shutter speed images about 1 second long, but I wouldn't push it longer or you'll get some vibration blur.
The casters are also a bit of a pain to work with. You may want to lock the casters before you position your camera or the slippery casters will move in awkward ways.
This is a minor issue but the pole is very shiny. If you're shooting reflective objects, you'll have to cover the pole to prevent reflections.
Purchase the black version if you think this will be an issue.
Overall, this is a great item.
