My skin has always been a priority to me, so often I'll use various natural products from my kitchen, to keep my skin in great condition... things like raw milk and honey. A while ago I bought the premier dead sea salt scrub from one of those small kiosks in my local mall. It's always done wonders for my skin, but quite pricey for just a 10oz pot of it. So I did some research and found this company, Minera, that supply this salt naturally and in larger bulk, so the price is much better and it will last a lot longer.
As expected, great results after just one use. I can't stop touching my skin, lol! Since the salt is natural and dry (not moist like the premier pot) I mixed some of it in a bowl with olive oil, to make it easier to use as a body scrub. It's just so much easier to apply that way. I love using organic coconut oil, which is very good for skin, but you can also use virgin olive oil also.
I usually take a regular shower first, to clean my body with soap, etc. I then dry off and then gently scrub my skin with this salt, before rinsing it off with water. You should only scrub your skin 2-3 times per week, so keep this scrub for the shower and then for the rest of the week, just soak in a hot bath with the salts, so you get that continual benefits of the salts. After the hot bath, quickly splash your skin with cold water to close your pores. This is what the Japanese do after taking their hot baths as it's great for the skin, improves blood circulation, energizes you, etc.
My skin always feels so soft and hydrated after using the salt, and like I just had a detox. I did a bit of research and learnt that the salts do more than just treat the skin. They actually penetrate the skin and help to get rid of toxins inside the body, so the minerals in the salt get released into the body, and don't just stay on the surface of the skin. They typically will use this salt in spas where you end up paying full price for treatments that really you can do yourself at home, for a lot less money.
This might appeal to some of you. I learnt that the salts assist with CELLULITE and ANTI AGING!!! Apparently the minerals seep into the body and help to break down the cellulite/fatty deposits below the skin's surface, making your skin look smoother!
It's all down to the minerals in the salt.....
Magnesium - promotes healing of skin tissue and good for cell metabolism
Bromide - soothing, relaxes muscles, calms nerves
Iodine - helps thyroid gland
Sulfur - a disinfectant, detoxifying agent, rids the body of toxins (HELPS FIGHT OFF ACNE!!)
Potassium - helps balance moisture in skin and body, nourishes cells and regulates nervous system
Calcium - strengthens cell membranes and cleanses pores
Sodium - relieves stiffness and muscle cramps, powerful detoxifying agent
Zinc - protects skin against sunburn and windburn, boosts immune system
Since this is great for anti aging I've decided to also try spraying it on my face as a face mist. You use one cup of distilled water with a pinch of the salt (and a few drops of essential oils if you choose) and mix in a clean spray bottle until the salt has dissolved. It can be used as a toner or just face refresher mist each day! But each time you apply it to your face you're helping to keep your skin younger.
CAUTION: Make sure to keep the salt far away from your eyes!! When I used it as a body scrub I got some of the tiny grains in my eyes. Also, for my most recent bath I decided to add in more than the minimum amount of salt required, to make the bath a bit stronger. However, this strong salty steam got in my eyes and for the next few days after my eyes were very dry and sore that I had to put drops in them. I may wear goggles during my next bath, lol. Either I just used too much salt or my eyes are actually very sensitive to the salts.
Anytime the Eczema spreads beyond a spot or two. I add this to his bath water and it goes away after a bath or two. Then it stays away for awhile. I'm probably luckier then some people in that my sons Eczema comes and goes. So I only need to use this from time to time.
He's five now and anytime his Eczema acts up he asks for his salt bath and loves it.
I should say that we also follow up the salt bath with vanicream moisturizing skin cream. It's free of dyes, fragrance, lanolin, paragons, and formaldehyde.
The vanicream helps keep the Eczema at bay when its just a spot or two. But when it appears on more of his body the cream is not enough and he needs a salt bath.
