Really Expensive, Really Disappointing

Really Expensive, Really Disappointing
My dad was a plumber who swore by Moen products and still does. I have used Moen and Kohler for years in my home remodels and currently have every faucet in the house from Moen. But I have never had the problems we've had with this setup. While the volume controls and trims are beautiful and we love them, the 3371 temperature control valve is the worst part of this very expensive setup we now appear to be stuck with.I loved the look of the Moen brushed nickel trim, the idea of the volume controls to have a shower head and separate hand held sprayer seemed so elegant. I was the one who sold my lovely wife on the setup and now I regret it. If I could get some water pressure out of the valve, I would be thrilled. I've had the trim off and the valve apart so many times trying everything every plumber, including my dad and Moen have suggested to try that I'm concerned it's not going to go back together if we keep it up. Nothing has solved the issue. In our guest bathroom (farther from the incoming water and hot water heater) we have excellent pressure and temperature control. In that bathroom I'm under the impression you could boil seafood in that shower but not in main, remodeled bathroom with the 3371 valve.I've checked the lines under the house, two different plumbers I've hired have checked everything and gave me a discount because they each thought they could solve the problem. They came in with the attitude that because plumbing wasn't my profession surely I screwed something up on the install. According to each of them I'm a pretty good plumber after all.My advice is if you want a spa like shower, use something else in the design besides the stand alone temp control valve. Seems like in the drive to protect you from burning yourself (which I thought was a good idea) the designs do something to choke the pressure down leaving you with a less than stellar shower experience and a very expensive proposition to make design changes. Otherwise, get your plumber (or you) to turn it on and check pressure before you close up the walls. If I had done that, I would have put something else in. 2 stars, 5 for the trims and 1 for the 3371 valve.

4.0 out of 5 stars Update: No cold water
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2015
Update to review below: I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. It turned out to be a defective stop. I removed the stop and now I am getting cold water, Moen is sending me a replacement free of charge. I do agree with the calibration being wonky with the other reviews here. I talked to Moen and the valve is designed to output a temperature range from 80 degrees minimum to 105 degrees max. If you'd like it hotter than 105 degrees, you have to push in the handle and rotate it to get hotter water. I did not like this feature, especially since I enjoy taking cold showers, (70 - 75 degrees) on a hot sweaty day to cool off! The fix was to grind off the stops on the handle using a dremel, and now I have full range of water from 70 degrees to 108 degrees without pushing and pulling the valve in and out.

Previous review: I just installed this in my master shower and there is no cold water! I hope the only problem is a defective cartridge. Prior to installation, (brand new out of the box), I blew into the cold side and it was very restricted, I figured with water pressure it might work ... I was mistaken. I am not a big fan of this valve as it is defective from the factory. With the cartridge removed there was no restriction.

On a side note, the Moen s3600 volume control valves work very well. I have 4 of them installed in the shower, one to control the main shower head, one for sliding bar hand shower head, one for rain shower head, and one for body sprays - moen s1300 (see pics). The body sprays use a lot of water (2 gpm each), so I decided on installing 2 of them on the rear wall (instead of 4) with a valve on the rear wall to control them. The body sprays come with a nice mounting bracket but I decided not to use it so I can turn the inlet and outlet horizontal for a pressure loop. With the S3371 mixing valve, I can run 3 out of 4 shower features at the same time, 60 psi without a noticeable drop in pressure.
