For the nitty gritty of use, you can not beat it. It has an adjustable strength mechanism, just slides to desired amount. It is very easy to see the fill line on the decanter so no worries of overfilling. The compact storage design is wonderful to save precious counter space, and a quick swing of the top allows for easy filling and brewing. The picture shows it in operational use, it is much more compact when you turn the top to store after use. It is dishwasher safe, but I prefer to rinse it out after using by hand. It only takes a second and is much safer. The water heats up in seconds and your tea is ready in minutes, the tea is very flavorful as if it were steeped right after making it. This is by far the best designed unit I've ever owned and I have had many. Tea is a staple in my home, and this has absolutely no cons; that I can find anyway. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys tea.
Decided to try again with a replacement. The second one has performed perfectly. Easy to use and makes a good strong batch when set on “strong”. Almost four years old at this point and I use it at least twice a week. Very pleased. Also like the glass pitcher. Most are plastic.
About to hit my 6th anniversary with this item using it constantly. Still excellent results. Compared to past purchases I believe I get a darker brew with fewer tea bags. Unit is smaller overall compared to many others. Cleaning is fairly easy.
Unfortunate I finally broke the glass pitcher. Guess I should be thrilled I made it 6 years. Can’t find an exact replacement. Thought about replacing the whole thing but the price has gone from $35 to $70! I was shocked. I can’t see such an investment, even with a good product. Need to find another pitcher that fits within the maker space allotment.
But if $70 doesn’t doesn’t scare you off, it’s a very good machine. Maybe I’m catching the item with a temporary inflated price?
The previous lifetime of other makers I’ve purchased in the past has been approximately 2 years. So all in all, this has been a winner.
As for the machine itself, it still makes an excellent pitcher of tea. I like mine on the strong side, and I appreciate that I can choose the brew strength. I periodically run water with either bleach or vinegar (and then plain water several times to get the bleach or vinegar out) through the machine to keep it clean.
My only complaint is that I can't find a replacement filter. My filter is still in good shape, no warping or anything like that, but it looks grungy from years of tea going through it. I have tried bleach and vinegar (not at the same time, obviously) to get it clean to no avail.
So, with basic care/upkeep, this tea maker can last years.
Granted, I use this tea maker every other day to make a large pitcher of iced tea, so it does get a work out. However, the cup where you place the tea bags during brewing is fatally flawed. I am on my third tea maker because each lasts one to two years. After that point, the cup starts sagging, and the result is that the tea no longer goes into the pitcher. Instead, it flows out over the sides and onto the counter top and floor. At that point, the tea maker is trash.
Unlike others, I still have all three of the pitchers. They are glass, but you just have to be careful with them, and they hold up just fine. The glass is actually fairly heavy.
My advice is to decide if the looks make the short life of this appliance worth the fact that you will have to replace it fairly regularly. For me, the balance is there, but for others, the value would be lacking.
