I then plugged it in. I got a blinking red led light (it should be a steady red light - indicating that it is charging).
I read the "trouble shooting" section. My best guess was the battery was too dead to charge. The pamphlet suggested jumping the battery to give it a little juice. I left GEN1 leads in place. I connected the jumper cables to a charged battery. I only had to leave it on for 3 or 4 minutes. I detached the jumper cables and the error went away. That is, it stopped blinking red. It stayed solid red. After 20 minutes of charging (this time with no jumpers - just the trickle charger), the truck started. When I shut the truck off, the green light stayed lit. This indicated the battery is charged. I knew it wasn't. To fix this, I unplugged the extension cord. When I reconnected the power cord, the red light came on - this time with no errors. I repeated this procedure three times - all with the same results. So I think the charger is working. I will check tomorrow to see the status of the light.
I need to mount the box and install a plug on the bumper. I will probably install it under the license plate to provide extra protection from the elements.
So far so good.
The reason I bought this product was because the suburban has a slow leak. I could spend $500 to have it diagnosed, but I don't want to spend that much. I already dropped $500 to fix the main leak (drain). I will probably keep it plugged in most of the winter.
I hope I can find a good place mount the box.
The NICI Genius GEN1 is performing well so far with none of the issues associated with the other unit. If you need a replacement for your Zoeller charger, this is the one to get. It is quick and painless to set up.
This unit is completely sealed--it's designed to be used in marine service--and the battery cables are not clamps but rather permanent ring connectors designed to be fastened to the battery terminals. I am using it on a 12 volt deep discharge battery of 200 A-Hr capacity, and this unit is designed for batteries up to just about this size (and smaller, of course).
Power interruptions don't confuse this unit and it just picks up where it was before the power was interrupted.
I used this to replace a conventional 10 amp charger that couldn't be left unattended safely without the danger of overcharging a battery. Very happy.

One other thing, I was surprised how cool it ran while charging the battery, it just got slightly warm to the touch.
