My first impression of this unit upon my initial use of it is that it is about the best compressor performance for the price (price per listed CFM at 90 psi - when compared against similar performing units by Ingersoll-Rand, Craftsman, Makita and Industrial Air) that I think one could expect before going to a larger unit wired for 220/240 or gas-powered. This unit is the perfect choice for the homeowner looking for an upgrade to a smaller pancake or other portable unit. Assembly was simple and was essentially complete after bolting on the wheels and attaching the handle. Order the compressor oil also unless you want to make a separate trip to Home Depot or Lowe's to get that before you can plug it in and turn it on. I was particularly intrigued to see just how quiet it would be, as that was noted in the product details and one feature that mattered to me. It is indeed quiet compared to the little screamer portable that I had been using. The dark charcoal, fine-wrinkle finish on the unit appears very durable and was frankly more appealing to me than a typical painted finish. Other thoughtful details on this compressor include a properly located air-release valve at the bottom of the tank near the right side that make it very simple to open and drain off any moisture or excess air before storage. If I had a gripe, it'd be that the air-connector is immediately connected to the gauge, and that made it a little more difficult to unscrew the connector from the gauge-body so that I could hard pipe a filter/separator in-line before the connector. This is due to the lack of a good purchase-point to stick a wrench that will allow for removal of the connector fitting from the gauge-body, as the gauge-dial makes it too tall to allow one to rotate it with the gauge still on it and unscrew it from the unit. Anyway, the issue won't likely affect anyone not needing particularly dry air. Finally, although I would guess that NorthStar imports this unit (from Puma perhaps), as the bolts are all metric and don't appear to be quite up to that of American ASTM grade threads. Frankly, these are relatively little things and wouldn't deter me from strongly recommending this compressor to any friend looking for the same things that I was - good performance for the homeowner-level user for the best price. Great unit here from NorthStar!

Compressor arrived in perfect condition, and setup was relatively easy. The compressor is very quiet, and it has all of the power I need for running air tools in my home shop.

I did have to adjust the belt which was set too tight at the factory. Other than that, I'm quite pleased. This is the most expensive air compressor I've owned to date, but I feel that it is well-built and quite capable.

Have had this compressor for almost 3 years and it is still running strong, with no malfunctions yet. I use it for airing tires, blowing off work with an air gun, and spraying paint with an hvlp gun.

Pros:
-Relatively quiet compressor. Sound pulses are low frequency with less "slap" than other belt driven compressors I've used. Easy on the ears, and won't bug your neighbors!
-Can be easily moved around on a level floor.
-Charges to full pressure in a couple minutes from empty.
-holds air for long periods, meaning no leaks.
-nice tires and vibration dampers.
- nice wrinkle powder coat finish that still looks good.

Cons:
-slightly restrictive regulator, can't drive a 1/2" impact gun with any power. Need to upgrade to a 3/8" regulator for more airflow.
- position of drain valve is pure silliness. Instead of being directly on the bottom, it is to the side, so it won't fully drain the condensate unless you tip the compressor toward the drain.
-a little top heavy, but all these compressors are.

I'll update again after upgrading the regulator.

Easy setup, added synth oil, purred to life, ran quiet, filled quickly. Two nice pluses: When turned off by electrical switch, it does not initiate a 'safety' release of tank pressure. It holds tank pressure. Second, the tank water pet clock is actually reachable without tipping or raising the unit. Sounds obvious but not always that way. I had expected to have to add plumbing under the tank for that. Only downside is that it's shipped on its side so had some deformation of belt guard cage. But nothing worth fussing over. I replaced a small underpowered C-H unit that served me well for 20 years before a tank pinhole rusted through.

Product description states if we purchase starter kit the 4 year warranty is extended a year leading consumer to believe we need not purchase starter kit which includes oil and filters. Item arrived without oil so I ordered the starter kit. However, they did not add the add'l year warranty. In addition, the filters did not fit the unit so I had to purchase fitters. Finally, the item description states made in U.S.A. and the direction book that comes with unit states made in Taiwan. Love Amazon but would be great if all vendors who sell on Amazon were as honest and gave their customers the same care that Amazon does.
