Old Dutch Unity Cast Iron Tetsubin Teapots

Old Dutch's Unity Tetsubin Teapots

Tetsubins are Japanese-style Cast Iron Teapots that are graceful and elegant vessels for brewing and serving tea. They are considered the best vessels for tea brewing, as the cast iron evenly distributes heat to extract the full flavor and health benefits of the tea. Their heat-retaining properties keep tea at proper service temperature for up to an hour.

Infusing Loose Leaf Tea

Each Teapot includes a Stainless Steel Infusing Basket for convenient brewing of loose tea. (Except the large 'Hakone' teapot/humidifier)

Brewing tea in an Old Dutch Tetsubin is easy and convenient, and using loose tea is the way to go. Because the leaves in loose tea are larger in size - they contain more flavor, and aroma than ready to use tea bags.

Old Dutch Provides the Best

Our Tetsubin Teapots are hand-crafted using specially purified Iron and lined with durable Glass Enamel.

ODI's Tetsubin Tea Tips

Your teapot is intended for brewing and serving only. Do not use your teapot to boil water. You may, however, keep your teapot warm over a tealight candle if desired.

Pre-heat your teapot: Pour a small amount of heated water into the teapot, let sit, swirl and discard.

Place loose tea into the stainless steel infuser. Adjust quantity according to tea type and taste.

Pour the water into the teapot, cover and steep 3 to 5 minutes or to taste. Remove infuser and wet tea leaves.

With over 30 different Cast Iron Teapots to select from, Old Dutch offers something for everyone.

Which Tetsubin is right for you?

Whether you're serving tea for two or for an entire family, we offer a wide variety of Cast Iron Tetsubins to choose from.

Our biggest Tetsubin, the 3 Liter 'Hakone' can even double as a humidifier for your home.

The tiny 11 oz. 'Tokyo' is small enough to be your portable and personal teapot.

From elegant and traditional to colorful and loud, Old Dutch carries many designs to suit your personal taste.

Choose your Cast Iron Tetsubin and make a statement that best describes you.

Your next family heirloom.
5 Stars
Your next family heirloom.
The star ratings are a bit vague in that one could certainly acknowledge that this kettle is easy to clean, giftable, and warm. If you choose to undermine seasoning your teapot by leaving the trace sedimentary residue left behind from actually brewing tea in it, its easy to clean. It's cast iron coated with porcelain enamel. In regards to giftability, certainly. If your intentions are to gift someone a teapot that they could pass down generation to generation, buy it. The idea behind a gift has a lot less to do with the item itself rather than the gifter and the giftee in my opinion. I could gift someone a pack of gum but I don't need a review or anything else for that matter to tell me how the gift was received. As for "warmth", well, I've never used or heard of a teapot that brewed hot tea without adding heat so yeah, its warm.My personal take on this specific teapot is simple. I purchased and received precisely what I was looking for at a price that I was agreeable to pay. The following were my prerequisites:• Durability - One might have to actually try and break it but, why? I'm rough on things but I won't be smashing any teapots with my smith's hammer anytime soon.• Functionality - I bought it to keep on our wood stove throughout the winter months to serve as a humidifier as well as always having hot water available to brew tea, make coffee, oats, or whatever may require it.• Volume - There are 5 of us in our immediate family. A tiny teapot simply would not do. This teapot is 3L. Unless you go through the majority of your day drinking tea perpetually, you won't be topping of the water too often. Besides, I wouldnt attempt to heat anything much larger on a wood stove. This specific style or type (Hakone) is modeled after traditional teapot designs that have been heirlooms in Japanese families for many years. The manufacturer Old Dutch has a great reputation for cast iron products. For me, the type and manufacture met my personal quality standards and in turn resulted in my purchase. I was not disappointed and I remain very pleased with it. This is a durable quality item that I suspect I will get a lifetime of use from.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap & Dangerous
Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2024
After reading the reviews, I was nervous about the integrity of the pot, but took the risk. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

After one use, I opened the chamber to add water and noticed the lining inside had cracked, exposing rusted metal.

It also wasn’t functional.
