It has a glass lid, so you can see what is going on in the pot.
It also has a heavy bottom, making the pan without lid weigh in at approximately 3lbs. The bottom is about, 1/4 to 5/16 inch thick, twice as thick as a heavy "Griswold" iron skillet. This heavy bottom should make it good for even heat for the simmering that is needed for soup, pot-roast, and or stew or other items that get prepaired in large baches.
Not having used it yet, it appears to be an awesome pot.
after using it, I find that the handles are a little on the small side, I can't get all of my fingers under the lid's handle, and the side handles are a little on the small side. when steadying the pan for stirring, you can't get a good grip on the handle. I know that my husband, a man with big hands, would really dislike the small handles.
As for cooking, it is an awesome pot, in that you can simmer an item for hours without all the moisture going away. the heavy bottom is a great asset.
