This part did not closely resemble the part than I removed to replace. The old part had a plastic piece that resembled an impeller that spun on the back side of the motor, whereas the new motor had a small cover. The whole assembly for the new unit was a bit heavier and more substantial. The holes in the furnace where the old unit was installed matched the ones on the new unit, and all of the specs matched those I had found on the internet for the unit. It comes with a fibrous gasket mounted on the surface where it is installed against the furnace.
Including the removal of the old unit, removing old gasket material, cleanup, and reconnecting wiring and tubing took less than an hour. Removal of the old unit involved disconnecting two wires, disconnecting the tube running to the pressure switch, and removing the four screws that hold the unit in place. Before installing the new unit, I had to remove some of the old gasket material that had stuck to the furnace, and I cleaned up a little dust and dirt that had collected in the compartment. For installation of the new inducer, the removal process was reversed.
Important Tip: Always shut off power to equipment like this before beginning work. Make sure no one will/can repower the part while you are working on it.
Tip: If your unit is installed in an attic, basement, under your house (as in my case), or some other out of the way place, make sure to bring something to scrape the old gasket material off of the furnace. A wet/dry or other vacuum is also helpful for removing pieces of old gasket material as it breaks up.
To be clear, I'm not advocating DIYers doing this without having some knowledge and an experienced guy on the phone with them, this was dealing with gas burners and important safety controls. The son-in-law is an engineer and I was in his ear walking him through every step and making sure all the safeties were checked and funtioning. So we did it the safe way. Just saying that this appears to be a quality product so long as it holds up.
