I called various banks and most charge a fee of 10% if you don’t have an account with them (I don’t since I bank out of state). Walmart’s Coinstar charges 11.9% and so that is why I decided to buy this machine.
I did read the reviews of various models, and I was going to buy the manual hand crank model but I had so many bags of coins to count that I thought that I would give this model a try. There are more expensive models but for home use I decided on this model, I was also considering the 4 row model but did not want to pay close to $130.00 for it.
I received the product on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, and started to use the machine, the so called Anti-Jam Technology does not work. I have had 20 jams on this unit so far and have had to open up the top to access the revolving disk to dislodge on the left side of the unit coins stuck under the black plastic lip and the white base.
There are several reviews that show a photo of this jam area, and I think it is why this product has so many bad review.
When the coins are dumping into the slotted cylinder's they don’t drop in all of the way and if the coins are dropping to a cylinder that is almost full it continues to fill the cylinder, and coins drop on the floor unless you stop the unit. Many times a letter will appear on the screen; for example, Q for quarters saying that it is full when it is not and so you have to jiggle the cylinder to make it work again.
I continued to use it Wednesday afternoon, and started on Thursday morning to finish my project. This continually jams up, and I would have to say that since I have used it I have had to un-jam the unit 25 times.
That is when I decided to return it back to Amazon, I have spent more time opening it up to un-jam coins in that one spot since I started to use it. I finally decided to hand count my coins to finish the job so that I could take my coins to the bank.
I saw a video for the 4 Row unit, and it is more automated, the cylinders fill to the top and then the second row advances, until that is full and then it advances to the third row. The way the coins drop down directly over the cylinders are much better than this 2 row unit. This unit seems to spit out the coins, and you hope that it can find the cylinder to drop down into the wrapper.
My project is done for now, but I would probably get the 4 row unit if I decide to buy a coin machine again.
I have two videos showing the problems with this unit, so buyer beware, read other reviews. I would not recommend this product, you get what you pay for. Only one video is showing here, look for my other review to show the video where the jam occurs.
This counts, and rolls the coins quickly and accurately. Almost too fast because it was hard to keep up with removing the roll inserting another coin roll, and putting it back in the machine. That whole process takes 10 seconds if you're working swiftly. Before you finish one another is full. Each time the machine stops so that you can advance the tray, and remove the filled roll, and replace it with an empty one. For and additional $23 you get double the capacity and it advances automatically. That's a huge time saver and gives enough time for you to remove and replace, without stopping the operation of the machine.
I purchased this for a fundraiser where we received a lot of change and I didn't want to roll of the coins so it was a donation to the cause for me. So I really wanted to spend as little as possible. However, if you have enough change to consider this the additional cost will make the task that much faster.
$1200 worth of coins rolle and a total 5 jams. One coin had a something glued to it, there were a couple of silver dollars. I think there was only one jam that I couldn't figure out why. I would say that the anti jamming feature works well. Even when it jams it's very easy to clear they get caught in the same place. You pull it free and keep going.
The pre-rolled coin sleeves are bit more expensive but again worth every penny. If you had to do it side by side with the two different machines, like I did, you wouldn't consider another system at this price point.
Most banks no longer offer coin counting for free, and require that you roll your coins before turning them in. As of this review CoinStar is charging 11.9%. If you anticipate having more than $557.82 worth of coins to roll over a lifetime then you'll do better than CoinStar, and if you get the upgrade as recommended then your break even point would be $840.25.
Definitely worth the money.
