On an average with the method provided it takes a good five minutes to load a 100 round belt, from drop of drum mag to load of drum mag. However with the speed loader you can cut that time in half, but still it takes time. So get a lot of belts, and make em' count.
Don't go Rambo all the time, but I understand its hard to resist. Now if your serious about making a lot of lead fly and making animals, metal sheets, etc disappear I would suggest a 88cuft scuba tank to fill your 20oz tank. You can get about 40 fills out of the scuba tank. Or run it strait off the scuba tank with proper adapters of course and make it rain all day.
In conclusion its sturdy, fun, and not a toy. I cant stress enough "Adult Supervision", even for you man child's out there who are reckless. No joke this will go through windows, fenders, any small Vermont, and would seriously injure a human. So be safe and have a proper area to shoot . Don't forget just cause it can stop one pellet does not mean it can stop the 11 more behind it.
But I digress you shall buy it and you will love it. Enough said!
-It has now been three months and I have some incites and updates to report. First, so far I have run 10,000 rounds through my SMG 22 and is working like a dream. Now that is 10,000 rounds with proper lubrication and cleaning every thousand rounds. Second, I have decided that the best ammo is Crossman Premier round ball for two reasons, accurate and cheap, nothings better. Third, As I have previously stated you should be using HPA tanks ,but I have upgraded to a twin 4500 psi carbon fiber tank with regulator working in tandem.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the performance of Air Ordnances SMG22.
I purchased the SMG .22 a few years ago. I've put thousands of pellets through it and have not had a single bit of trouble with it. Considering it's a derivative of the ultra-reliable Tippmann paintball marker, and is in fact made in the same factory that manufactures Tippmann paintball products, its reliability is no surprise at all. I've fired full-auto firearms many times in the past, and they're a lot of fun. That fun lasts until you realize you just blasted through $100 worth of ammo in twenty minutes. It's a rich-man's hobby. The SMG .22, on the other hand is cheap as dirt to shoot and is so much fun it's almost obscene. Be aware though, it sort of bridges the gap between the less-dangerous pellet airguns and actual firearms. What I mean by that is the weapon fires each individual pellet at velocities comparable to other airguns (around 600 FPS), but since it's capable of stacking pellet after pellet in the same small area at 12 rounds per second, its potential lethality is far more of a danger than any conventional gas-powered pellet gun, and probably also surpasses some cartridge firearms too. What that means is that you MUST have a good backstop, and you MUST NOT get carried away and start blasting everything between earth and sky. I've sawn through two-by-fours with this weapon with no trouble at all. And don't ever forget that, despite being gas (or air) powered like any number of guns you can find at Cabela's or other big-box retailers, this weapon is in a class of its own. You might have no problem with your 10 year old kid kicking around the woods with his break-barrel air rifle, but the SMG should never be used by a kid except under the very-close supervision of an adult. One last thing, if you use a hard backstop or (like I do) a metal bullet trap for firing this weapon, you better be wearing your eye protection because you will be peppered with fragments splashing back at you. The first time I shot it I was standing about 30 feet away from my bullet trap, and ended up having to pluck and tweeze bits of lead out of my forehead. Having had the SMG .22 for around three years, I still love the thing and wouldn't trade it for a so-called real gun, ever.
