Product Description

solar panel

The solar battery charger is essential if you have seasonal vehicles that sit for months without being used. With this unit, your vehicle's battery will still be as fresh as the day you left it. It's designed to fully charge a battery and maintain it at a proper storage voltage with free energy source - the sunlight. It's made of water resistant and heat resistant material, which provides you with a reliable long term use.

Versatile 18W Solar Panel

The solar charger has a high solar cell efficiency of 22.5%, and output voltage of 18V with 18W of energy, perfect for maintaining batteries of automobile, motorcycle, tractors or even boats. It also offers you 2 ways of charging:

1. Simply plug the included cigarette lighter plug in the socket and place the panel facing the direction with the most sunlight possible.

2. You can also use the crocodile clips to connect it directly to the battery. You can mount the panel on your windshield.

Please Note:

The unit is not for charging your vehicle's dead battery. It’s best as a solar battery maintainer that keeps your battery charged to lengthen its life expectancy.

Also, it is suggested to unplug the charger at night, just in case the blocking diode doesn't prevent all reverse discharge.

Used for keeping Truck battery ready to go.
Before hooking all of this up, I tested the Solar panel output with a voltmeter and it came in at 22.5 volts, so I believe overcharging could be an issue. I reinforced the sun screen with some duct tape, then punched some holes to run some velcro strips for positioning and the wire from the panel to the charge controller. The reviewer "Michael" stated that a charge controller was necessary to prevent over charging, so I bought this one (rated at 30 amps):https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DDDKQ91I cut off the clamps from the provided wires and then screwed them into the charge controller. This left a "quick disconnect" point on the solar panel. The wires seem somewhat thin, but they have been working just fine. Before; the truck was very sluggish to start. Now; The truck starts right up, and I can tell the the interior LED lights shine much brighter. This means I will save time and gas, as I do not have to drive it around waiting for the alternator to charge up the battery.Edit: Update as of 2019-03-17; I experimented with the unit and tried to set it for the 12v option manually. However, this seemed to not keep the car battery topped up. I eventually switched it back to "auto" mode and it appears to be working just fine. Still liking this unit and rating it at 5 stars.
