I ordered 2 of them and both came without any damages.
Assembly
When I started to assemble the first one, I questioned the integrity of the steel they used because the back of the cabinet could easily fold in half before putting it together, however, after putting the entire thing together it was fairly sturdy. Following just the pictures and some very light reading of the assembly instructions - the first one took me a little less than an hour. Second one took me about 20 minutes. The longest part is adjusting the shelf position to the height you want.
Overall, this cabinet is working out great for the price. If you are not storing more than 150 pounds per shelf and don't need anything super stylish, then I highly recommend this cabinet.
BEFORE ASSEMBLY
-You need TWO PEOPLE to assemble this. Doing so by yourself will my EXTREMELY difficult. I have my husband support some of the pieces while I assembled.
-You MUST use a rubber hammer. If you use a real hammer, you'll damage the item. If you don't have one, get one. They're very inexpensive.
-You MUST assemble the cabinet in the area where you plan to us it. If not, and you try to move it, you'll risk parts coming undone (more about that later)
WHILE ASSEMBLING
-Lay item flat when assembling as directions state. When it's completely assembled, two people can easily lift this and move it a short distance to where it needs to be placed.
-Use rubber hammer! It is your friend! It well help you slide the pieces with the metal tabs together much easier.
-Put in shelves while unit is still flat on the floor. It's way easier, trust me.
Again, when completed, have two people stand this upright and move into desires space. However, I would NOT recommend moving a long distance. My husband and I assembled in our family room upstairs, then tried to move this into our basement. Long story short, the bottom fell out along with the shelves because we titled it way too far. So, again, ASSEMBLE IN AREA YOU WISH TO USE!!! :) :) :)
Many people complained this item was "flimsy." I disagree. Many of the parts may seem flimsy, but if they were made of thicker metal, you'd have a much harder time getting it together and lifting it. If you need something thicker, spend the money on it; don't try to cheap out on this unit because you'll be disappointed. When the unit is put together, it's very sturdy. I have about 165 lbs worth of stuff on each side, and the thing doesn't move and the shelves don't seem weak whatsoever.
As far as dents, I had one small one on the side panel. I can't help but think that in many cases, people are going to dent this anyway while using. A small dent might not look nice if you're trying to use this in your living room (why you'd want to, who knows, but to each their own), but a small dent doesn't take away functionality.
Lastly, as with all cabinets and dresses, consider anchoring this item to the wall in your live in a home with children. Better to be safe than sorry. It does not seem like it will tip over with the amount of weight I have in it, but you never know.
Overall, I'm very happy with this cabinet, and intend to buy more of them in the future.
