You can't put it together just by hand. The pieces are TIGHT fitting. You NEED to give them a few good taps with a rubber mallet. And then it's a piece of cake to put together.
I use Gorilla Tape to secure the pieces after they've been tapped into place. Why? Because it's for a horse shelter. And I also drove T-posts into the ground to secure this shelter to the ground. It's SECURE and awesome this way! Cheap Horse shelter! Yay!
The pieces are sturdy, just like a $200 version that I bought prior. The whole thing is almost identical to the $200 King Canopy. EXCEPT that the King Canopy has more grommets on the roof and this Startlogic does not have grommets on the roof only has them along the sides. But it still seems perfectly fine.
What I'm going to do to further secure it, is throw some rope over the top for high wind.
I'm very happy with this. So, remember to get a RUBBER MALLET and you'll be fine.
That said,...if you want a temporary canopy that you will be taken down very soon, I would not suggest this. It may be very difficult to pull it apart. But if you're looking at long term, then yeah, this thing is great.
RECOMMENDED? YES!
i initially bought this with the intent of using it while i built a shed in my backyard, but the best laid plans of mice and men... we rescued a dog last summer and we set it for her outdoor shelter w one side panel over a small 6x8 deck
the weather tends too be fickle in my neck of the woods: 100 degrees in the summer, rapidly moving cold fronts in the fall/winter that will drop the temperatures by 10 degrees in less than an hour w overnight lows in the 30s, sudden downpours after that will saturate the ground in minutes & flood the garden.
i added another side panel as a windbreak, got her an insulated dog house, and i figured we were good to go.
on a not-particularly-windy night, we heard a crack, and a stampede of cats came thru the cat door from teh porch. we went outside three extremely large and heavy branches had broken off an ash tree landed right on top of this tent. surprisingly, the tent held the weight, the dog house was untouched and the dog was unhurt.
i was just looking at the damage to see if i can save any part of the tent - only one of the 3 prong connect pieces & one length of pipe were crushed, and the end of one short length of pipe sheared off.
this is astonishingly well built, i'm happy i bought it, and i highly recommend it to anyone who wants a sturdy canopy tent.
if i can hunt down a replacement part for the connector piece, i think i can put together a smaller shorter shelter for the doghouse bc the canopy itself didn't tear or break.
a million stars for protecting my dog.

a million stars for protecting my dog.
During a heavy snowfall in the winter of 2010-2011, one of the canopies collapsed under 12-14 inches of snow. This was where the rafter pipes slid together to make one long pipe. I reshaped the metal pipe ends with pliers, etc; reinserted the pipes and placed pipe clamps on all the pipes used to support the canopy top. We had more snow and lots of heavy rain since then. They are still standing. I'll admit, they are partially anchored to chain link fencing but they are still standing and do not leak. By the way, I live in Alabama and in April of 2011 we had crazy storms and crazy tornadoes with the biggest one being a 50 year record setting F5. We've also had a number of 50-70 mph wind storms in that time. In all those storm and all that wind, these things are still standing. If I needed a cheap, semi-temporary/semi-permanent canopy again, I'd buy one of these in a minute (but I'd still make my modifications which is why I marked it 4 stars).
UPDATE: SEP 14, 2012- Today, I am ordering 2 of these to replace the original 2 of 3 that I put up 26 months ago. The frames are still intact but the canopies have been beaten by the sun and weather. Also the bungee straps wear in time and I find it's best to replace those with heavy zip ties or aluminum wiring designed for securing chain link fence fabric. These tents have been up full time for the last 2 years. They have endured a lot of severe thunderstorms, wind, hail, torrential down pours but the last storm 2 weeks ago with sustained winds of 60 MPH finally ripped the canopies.
