I have two of these, one on either end of a fiber run of about 350 feet. The connection regularly drops between the fiber points. And it stays broken, until one side is unplugged for several seconds. WTF.
This diagnosis is from my network engineer
If the diagnosis is correct (and I tend to agree it is) Then the adaptor completely defeats the purpose of long runs. And adds hours and hours of expensive troubleshooting.
I live in Montana, and walking 300 in knee deep snow to the mechanical shed 4 times today really really sucked. I'd like my money back for these. Pleaes

Purchased two and when I first received it, it wouldn't auto connect straight out of the box. According to our Trendnet technical support call, we had to open both boxes and play with the jumper switches until I found a combination that worked for us. After a few hours, I finally found a combination that worked. Was happy it now works, but very unhappy about the amount of time it took to install something that should auto-connect. This brings me to the second issue I don't like about these things.
The link lights on these devices are a general link - nothing more. If ANY connection on EITHER converter is lost, ALL link lights turn off - including on the Ethernet switches. This makes it very difficult to troubleshoot any type of connection issues. These should have independent link lights for fiber and Ethernet instead of leaving us guessing where the problem is at. Even though the pair I have is working great now, it makes me nervous thinking any future issues we may have with them.
The other nuisance factor, also reported by others, is that the Link LED on either end only lights when the full link across the fiber has been established. So you could think your ethernet cable or switch port is bad when you don't get a Link indication, when it might actually just be that there's a problem on the fiber side.
I bought one more of these to have as a spare, any other Gigabit fiber paths I set up, I'll use something different.
