About this item

  • Never leave your garage door open again. Patent pending technology senses which car you're driving and closes the door automatically when you leave (if you forget to do it yourself) - may require optional vehicle sensor. Please read the description details.
  • Superior peace of mind. Unique security "Night Mode" makes sure your garage door is closed all night long. Grant guest users restricted or full-time access based on date and time.
  • Open, close, check the door status, and receive alerts anywhere in the world using your smart device and the Tailwind iOS or Android app. Works with Google Home, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Siri Shortcuts, and IFTTT.
  • Patent pending technology recognizes your vehicle's Bluetooth ID or the Tailwind vehicle sensor (sold separately or in other kits) so the garage door opens automatically when you arrive in your vehicle and will close if you leave and forget to close it (iPhone users or vehicles without Bluetooth must use a vehicle sensor). Please check our other listings for kits that include a vehicle sensor. Your smartphone must be with you in your vehicle.

Device is great, app is complete trash. Avoid at all costs.

Device is great, app is complete trash. Avoid at all costs.
09-02-20 update- I have really quite had it with this piece of garbage. Every single time they force you to do an update rhe device becomes very buggy or in this mostvrecent case, quits working completely. It stopped working days ago, I’ve tried updating it and deleting and reinstalling but the app will not even open on my phone. I just get the “spinning wheel of death” as you see in the latest pic I posted. Just stay away from this garbage, it’s not worth it. It worked great for a while but they can’t leave well enough alone, they’ve got to keep tinkering with it and screw it up again. Oh and before you say “well just don’t install the updates”, you don’t have a choice. The device will stop working and the app tells you that you MUST update it to keep using it.08-23-19 Update- They've made several updates to the software which can be annoying because you have to be connected to wi-fi to update, and if you are away and come home then guess what, it won't work (gives you a message that you need to update before it can be used again) and you can't update it until you get inside and are connected. So my son couldn't get in when he got home from school and I couldn't get in when I got home from work one day. Luckily I have a backup keypad mounted outside the door. That's the bad news. The good news is in recent months the door sensor now works 100% of the time for opening the door, so they fixed that issue in one of the updates apparently. So I'm raising my review from 3 stars to 4 for that because it is a very nice feature.01-10-19 Update- I've been trying some different things to try and fix the problems and turning off wi-fi on my phone has definitely helped. I think the system is getting confused when I back out of the garage because my phone is switching from the house wi-fi over to cel service, and as a result I was getting the weird results mentioned in the update below where the door would say it was closed when it was still open. If I leave wi-fi turned off then the door is 100% reliable on opening and closing using the app. It is still inconsistent on the sensor though, sometimes when I pull up it still doesn't open the door automatically (I'd say the door opens 75% of the time). I don't depend on it to close the door so I don't know if that has changed.01-08-19 Update- lowering my review because this setup continues to be unreliable. Once again I used the app to try and close my door while I was still in the driveway, and the visual in the app showed the door closing yet the door never moved. Attached are two pictures I took, one a screenshot of the phone showing the door closed and the other showing the door wide open. Also I left the house twice today, one time the door automatically opened (via the sensor) and the other it did not.I've had this installed about a week, wanted to wait a bit before posting the review. So here we go:Installation- the instructions are cryptic but there's not a lot to it. I ditched the sticky-back wiring clips included in the kit and used my own cable clips instead. Screwed them into studs and ceiling joists. Connecting everything up is fairly straightforward. The unit would not however connect with my router. It took 3 tries, I basically did the same thing each time and was in fact looking for a support number to call when it magically started working.Use- the app is very basic. Click the door and it opens. Click it again and it closes. The graphic image shows you whether the door is open or closed. Mostly it seems to be pretty reliable although one time I backed out of the garage and tapped the door to close it and the door stayed open even though the image in the app showed it closed! I was surprised about that, it's only happened the one time but that was a bit alarming.Alerts- you can set it to send you an alert whenever a door opens or closes. That's a pretty cool feature. It'll also tell you who opened it (if they are opening it using the app) so you can monitor when your kid gets home from school for example.Optional sensor- if you have an iPhone and you want the door to automatically open and close then you need this sensor. Unfortunately the minimum range you can set is 150'. If you're like me, you like to watch your door close and verify it's completely closed before you drive off. Well the auto-close doesn't begin until you're 150' away which means you probably can't see it at all. And to make matters worse, out of the 4 times I tested it leaving the house, it only worked once. 3 our of 4 times it did not close the door. So I gave up on it and close the door using my remote or the app. Now when I'm returning home it works quite well, opens the door automatically every time which is pretty cool. Setting up the sensor was a fussy process, it had no instructions. I couldn't get it to connect and finally figured out there's an on/off switch on it. Turned that on and it connected to the app just fine but did not work. I found a checklist of things to try and what I think worked was separating my phone and the sensor by 20' for 2 minutes and then trying again.Additional users- you can add as many as you want and turn their access on and off at will. That's really what I got this for, so I could give my kids, girlfriend and ex-wife access without buying a bunch of extra remotes. It works great for that. You can add, delete, or turn access on/ off at any time from the app.Issues- the "help" link just sends you to a bunch of YouTube videos. There's no email or phone number listed in the app. The User Management page is misspelled "user managment" which just kind of smacks of carelessness to me, we all misspell now and then but there's no excuse for it in final product form. Anyone on your user list can turn alerts on or off, so anyone can monitor who is coming and going from your house. So if you are married you might want to think twice about adding your girlfriend to that user list :-)I'm on the fence about giving it 3 or 4 stars, I think I'll go with 3 due to the setup issues and the fact that the sensor does not close the door. With a few improvements it'll be a solid 4 or 5 though.
