Quick Setup

The 4-step quick assembly instruction manual (included) and lack of nuts and bolts makes for a quick and painless setup so you can be more productive. Our team designed this unit so you can spend more time getting your work done.

Durable

Edsal's Industrial Shelving is proven to sustain a load of up to 4,000lbs. Whether it be a shelf for your shop's cleaning supplies or your shop's power tools this shelf can do it all.

Professionally Engineered

Edsal's shelving has been constructed from the ground up to ensure easy setup, protection from the elements, and a long life. The rivet lock design allows for assembly without nuts or bolts, black baked enamel finish for resistance to corrosion, and the shelves are supported by double-riveted beams and braces.

Step 1

Assemble two (2) post with one (1) brace (see figure A). Skipping one slot from the bottom of the post, place the rivets into post with the shelf ledge facing up (see figure B). Tap lightly to seat rivets. Repeat with two (2) post and one (1) brace. Assemble the two (2) post end units with two (2) beams (see figure C). Skip one slot from the bottom of post, tap lightly to seat rivets.

Step 2

Start by adding a wood shelf to the level previously built, then continue working by adding the second level using two (2) beams and two (2) braces in the post slots of your desired location. Again place the rivets of the beams and braces into the post slot with the shelf ledge facing up and tap lightly to seat the rivets.

Step 3

Add a wood shelf to the previously built level, then assemble the top post to the bottom post by using four (4) of the post couplers. place the couplers into the top of the bottom post, and the bottom of the top post and tap down to properly seat (see figure D). Continue by adding the third level using two 92) beams and two (2) braces just above the post couplers. Again tap lightly to seat the rivets.

Step 4

Add a wood shelf to the previously built level, then continue by adding the final level to the unit using two (2) beams and (2) braces. Tap lightly to properly seat the rivets and add the final wood shelf to the top of the unit.

Custom Shelving Heights

Our leading-edge construction and design provide for quick height adjustments. Simply displace the rivets and adjust your shelving to accommodate the perfect height for any job.

Stacked or Side-by-Side Design

In addition to adjusting shelving height using our rivet construction, Edsal's industrial shelving units were created to allow for either stacked or side-by-side organization to optimize your space and convenience.

Great light-duty unit for home storage needs, but skip it if you need something truly heavy-duty.
    3 Stars
Great light-duty unit for home storage needs, but skip it if you need something truly heavy-duty.
Seems capable of handling the weight, but the pressboard is on the thin side, and honestly the steel is a bit thinner than I'd have liked as well. But, the panels are easily replaced which fixes the concerns about weight capacity but kind of negates the 'great deal' part of the equation. I'm using it for home-canned food, which gets heavy in a hurry, so I wanted/needed shelves that I didn't have to worry about buckling over time.Pros:1) Cost. For the money, you can't beat the size, flexibility, and claimed weight capacity.2) Big. I can fit a lot of canned goods on this thing, and still have space left over for the canners, empties, vinegar, salt, etc.3) Modular design. The shelves can be 3 inches or 2 feet apart, depending on your needs.4) Ease of assembly. These ain't no Ikea shelves; they went together in a very self-explanatory way.5) Durable. The paint/powder coating seems like it'll hold up over the years, so you don't have to worry about rust unless you're leaving it outside (Which means that the pressboard shelves will dissolve, and that you'll have bigger problems than rust)Cons1) Flimsy. The steel's thin so the unit flexes and sways. I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving it with a full load on it because of how much it shifts, and stability is critical to weight capacity. So I bolted it into the wall studs with a few lag screws and solved that problem.2) Flimsy! The pressboard is thin and unsealed. It didn't feel like it'd hold up to weight & varying humidity, so I replaced it with 3/8 sanded plywood instead. (Note that this cuts into your savings considerably; the panels that come with it are fine for light-duty use, but canned goods weigh a lot and I wanted something more rugged)3) Unstable. This is a result of thin steel uprights that flex when it's loaded. If you've got kids (or live in an earthquake-prone area), don't load this shelving unit with anything heavy unless A) It's on the bottom shelf or B) You bolt it to the wall like I did. Seriously. SERIOUSLY! Don't do it! I didn't even have it fully loaded and it was shifting 2-3 inches from side-to-side/front-to-back with just a light nudge.4) Cost (for me) I saved a ton of money vs. building my own unit from scratch using heavier materials, but since I didn't want to have to worry about the pressboard failing from humidity in my cellar and weight from my canned food I had to upgrade them to sanded plywood for an extra $40. Worth it to me, but for the extra $$ I could have built a similar unit (admittedly, using this one as a guide) from stronger materials for about the same money.I guess the bottom line is that it's a great value for light-duty shelving unit for things like totes of camping gear, household goods, or whatever, but if you want something heavy-duty for books, canned food, tools, etc. it's best to skip it and build your own out of something more rugged.

5.0 out of 5 stars In this case less is More
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2015
I give it 5 stars because it exceeded my purchasing expectations with its sturdy feeling once completed. It also impressed me with a refreshingly well engineered product in every respect.

If I had been in a bad mood or in a rush to assemble would have lost at least 2 stars due to no instructions (except as in pictured to prove no exaggeration the single page titled "Assembly Instructions" of which there are none).

When I saw the box delivered I was prepared for disappointment since no decent shelf could come from such a diminutive flat box.

Upon opening the box I had mixed emotions when I saw the 5) 1/4" particle board shelves knowing they would be short lived in any moist environment and unable to support almost any weight even under the best of circumstances if called upon in the anticipated 1.5 ft x 4ft spans of each shelf..However when I saw how the packing had been engineered to protect the shelves at the corners I had a glimmer of hope.

What begins as a confusing array of light gauge powder coated steel pieces once locked in place becomes the frame for an elegant shelving solution. At this point the "bones" without the weight of any shelves only weigh about 10 pounds and cans be carried without dragging or even carried over head by one person and placed into position .

Ultimately 30 square feet (or 36 cubic feet) of rigid shelf space comes from a knocked down unit 4' x 1.5' x 4" and only weighing about 50 pounds.

Since nothing is perfect. You should not buy this if:
You will be storing wet or leaking objects unless you immediately replace or cover the absorbent particle board surface.
You are looking for shelving that will hold up to any moisture levels or any caustic, or salty environment for any time because the crimped sheet steel of the frame will succumb to rust and crumble shortly after the shelves (no matter how you treat them).
You are not inherently "structurally or mechanically inclined" and/or have no burning desire to be without calling A HELP NUMBER answered by someone who will undoubtedly lose respect for you and reveal it with tones and exasperation.
You don't have an abiding respect for less is more or haven't already paid your dues to the institution of "too damn heavy to move".

    You should buy this if:
You like an intellectual challenge met with a substantial reward. Or do $50 puzzles.
You have a need for freestanding shelving in warehouse, basement, accounting office etc.
You need to move a shelf by yourself because you are either independent, or lonely.
You believe that resources can be better conserved by inducements & voluntary actions for market reasons rather than adding cost and restricting choices incurred due to regulation.
