Product Description
For those preferring a smoother coffee taste, the Bialetti 4-Cup Venus combines beauty and elegance in a tastefully designed stovetop espresso maker. Bialetti's legacy of quality and reliability lives on in this coffee maker crafted in high-quality 18/10 stainless steel (including the inner parts such as funnel & filter plate) with ergonomic, heat-resistant handle and lid. Produces 4 cups of rich, authentic Italian espresso in just 4-5 minutes. Note that max boiler capacity is slightly greater than the final output. Some water will be left in the boiler after brewing. The Venus is compatible with all stovetops, including induction cooktops. Stainless steel espresso pots are not dishwasher safe, hand wash only. Never use other contents besides coffee like teas, cacao powder, instant coffee or fine ground coffee as it will clog the filter plate. To use; fill the lower chamber with cold water just below the valve. Insert the funnel and fill it with ground espresso (do not tamp). Remove any coffee grounds on the edge of the funnel. Tightly screw the upper part of the pot on the base. Avoid using the handle for leverage. Select burner size to fit the bottom of pot. For gas stovetop, make sure the flame is not larger than bottom of pot. The flame should not come around the sides of the pot. Place pot on the stovetop until the water boils and coffee begins to come out of the center post. There will be a gurgling sound during this process. When the top of the pot is full of coffee, remove from stove. Hazel brown foam appears just seconds before the coffee is completely done. Before pouring coffee, stir it in the upper chamber with a small spoon to equalize all the different coffee layers for optimum flavor. Bialetti is the world's most recognized and beloved Italian coffee company. Bialetti coffee makers have become iconic and has allowed millions of consumers to enjoy great Italian coffee that once was only available in cafes and restaurants. Bialetti's passion remains in making superb coffee simple.

All-in-all, I love it! It is easy to clean, looks sharp, and is functioning properly after a month or two of everyday use.
Trying to get to the bottom of this, I carefully peeled the sticker off the box to check everywhere for any other country of origin identifiers. Below the sticker was another notice that said, "DEVELOPED AND DESIGNED IN ITALY" then, below that and 50% smaller, "Made in China according to Bialetti's quality standards". [Sorry, no photo.] It is possible that this notice is what was confusing the matter, and people were not seeing the actual country of origin. Similarly, there's another notice on the front of the box that says "MADE by BIALETTI / Italian Quality & Design". You can see a similarity to Apple, where they tout "Designed by Apple in California", even if the products are actually manufactured in China.
However, just because my product was made in China does not necessarily guarantee that all of them are. Large-scale manufacturing can be a funny thing, and Bialetti might contract with multiple factories in different locations. If you live in a significantly different place than I do (southern California), you might get a model that was manufactured somewhere else. Product from other factories might be moved from one warehouse to another based on lack of sales, and there's always the possibility that the production factory might change (or have previously changed) every few years. Global economy is weird.
All that said, just because it was made in China does NOT mean the build quality is poor. In fact, looking at the little guy, I would say the build quality seems excellent. It is well designed, the metal construction seems solid, and the gasket in the middle seems quite resilient. I would be quite surprised if this did not hold up for many years.
Remember, Chinese manufacturing is not inherently synonymous with low quality manufacturing. Going back to Apple, their machines are built in China, yet the Apple laptop I am typing this review on has been in service for over five years. There are possibly moral and political reasons for not supporting Chinese manufacture, but low quality is not an automatic reason. I believe the Bialetti Venus falls in the 'high-quality manufacturing' camp rather than the 'McDonald's toy' camp.
Still, I literally just opened the box. I have not brewed anything yet, so who knows, maybe it stains and pits and falls apart in a week's time. Not me, that's for sure. But from my first impression, I think things will be fine.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some moka coffee to brew.
[Notes: I haven't actually used the product as of this writing, so I just put down a 4-star review as a placeholder. I'd say the manufacturing quality deserves that. I'll try to come back and update this after I've used it for a few months. Also, if anyone decides to get to the bottom of this and contact Bialetti directly, post a comment about it and I'll update this review.]

I am very pleased overall. I follow the instructions and things turn out just fine every time, every day, for about 3 weeks now. I am not sure it will actually make 4 cups of espresso (yes, I know espresso shots are small), but I generally just make a double and mix with some frothed milk for a latte that is as good as most any I have tried (although I am terrible at frothing milk). I hardly get any "crema" with this pot, but I did not really expect to, and the taste is great.
This may not be for those of you espresso connoisseurs out there who need a 1/2 inch of crema with each shot, but for my purposes it does just fine. I use the Illy preground for espresso, by the way.

- good "correct" way of making coffee
- flavour is there, very few (almost none) bits of coffee "bits" get into the final product
- looks nice
- works on induction heaters
- easy to wash
Cons:
- not delivered in perfect condition (had a few scratches and it didn't really seem like new, though Amazon has offered a 30% reimbursement while keeping the product)
- even if it's easy to wash, you still have to wash it every time, as supposed to more expensive ways of making coffee (espresso, filter etc)
- process of adding grounded coffee in that slot almost always ends up in a little mess (it's morning and I haven't had my coffee, of course I'm not careful)
- don't get fooled about that 4 cups thing, that only works for tiny espresso shots; it will just make enough coffee for 2 people if you fill it up to max.
