How did we get our start?
Our story began with the first mass market automobile. We were one of the first companies to deliver replacement products for the automotive aftermarket, and we remain at the forefront today.
Why do we love what we do?
People's lives and livelihoods depend upon cars and trucks. We give people greater freedom to fix these vehicles by putting owners and installers first.
What products do we make?
We deliver an always-evolving catalog of parts, covering light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles, from chassis to body, underhood to undercar, and hardware to complex electronics.

From the manufacturer
Handle door and liftgate repairs with ease
Door handles, liftgate handles, and window cranks are subject to extensive wear and tear. Fortunately, our high-quality handles, cranks, and repair kits make these jobs faster, easier, and more affordable than ever before—whether it's a DIY fix at home or a customer repair in your shop.
Our superior handles and cranks are available instantly, offer the same fit and functionality as OE, and we're continually innovating in new technologies to stay ahead of the game. That's why Dorman is the undisputed aftermarket leader.
It’s easy to get a grip on handle and crank repairs when you choose the aftermarket leader.
Why? Because we have thousands of direct replacements for millions of vehicles readily available, as well as improved designs that increase future durability.
- Choose #1 – Nobody beats our coverage—we’ve got your handle
- Save time – Order handles and cranks online or in-store, and install them in minutes
How Dorman improves on OE designs
Our replacement handles and cranks are engineered to match the look, feel, texture, and function of original parts. But that's not all. Because handles and cranks often fail over time due to corrosion and debris intrusion, we improve on original designs whenever we see an opportunity, such as improving seal or materials.
- Cut costs, not corners – Get the same fit and function as the factory equipment, for less
- Increase reliability – Many OE FIX designs featured upgraded gaskets and metal components to help prevent future failures

"its a good door handle overall, its not quite as trimmed for a o.e. fit n finnish...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the fit of the hardware handle. Some mention that it fits very well and easy to install, while others say that it doesn't fit flush like the factory one and the edges are a little rough. The backing gasket doesn' t fit well, and it doesn’t meet the OEM specifications for dimensions.

"Pretty simple to replace this piece as my original door handle lever was worn (bent) just enough that the door was getting hard to open...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the material of the hardware handle. They mention that it's made of plastic with pressed threads instead of a threaded cast. The nut-insert pops out during installation, and the handle broke while trying to install. The handle itself is metal, but the housing is injection molded plastic. The threads break off of the main plastic body, and little metal pieces break loose and strip out. The inner parts break because they were too thin at the start. The cast in nut on the end broke out of the piece as soon as the bolt started to snug.
"...Yes the handle is cast aluminum and the housing is plastic. It is a real pain to install. But the it fits like a glove and works perfectly...." Read more
"...The first time I immediately noticed is that the body part of the handle was not aluminum and because of this construction I had issues - both Good..." Read more
"...I did both doors and they are both the same way. That plastic is too fat and you need to use an exacto knife to trim some away to get that tab to..." Read more
"...The handle itself is metal, but the handle housing is injection molded plastic and does not meet the OEM specifications for dimensions...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the stability of the hardware handle. They mention that the lock cylinder doesn't stay in place, the lock mechanism seems to be getting pushed in, and the lockset would not latch into housing. Some say that the hole is slightly too big.
"...One thing to also note is that the key lock would not lock in position due to the construction of the plastic assembly...." Read more
"I saw some reviews saying that the lock doesn't stay in place. It does, but it's a *really* tight fit...." Read more
"...Unfortunately the other issue is the lock mechanism seems to be getting pushed in...." Read more
"...is most maddening is that the slot that the lock cylinder locks into is not in spec...." Read more

Today GM is importing many many parts in from thier china plants and it is why congress added "no bailout money can go to GMs over seas plants" in the bail out bill. These issues will never be fixed but will be even worse. Todays GM is worse than yesterdays GM if you can believe that. The usa Buicks are full of China parts because they make about every model in China/USA both. They are importing complete cars made in China too.
This was for my ex wifes 96 GM truck. She bought it like new with 40,000 miles and it now has 118,000. She's put more into it in repairs than what I paid for my complete 91 toyota truck in 1995. She's replaced both door locks, steering box,air cond twice, intake gasket twice, all the frontend steering parts, drivers window motor, radiator, starter, fuel pump, power steering pump, transmission, water pump, outside door handles both sides, inside door handles drivers and countless more parts. I saw one repair bill over 3200.00! Good thing she's a school teacher and dont haul stuff in it and garaged it all the time. Also dood thing this is Chevy's deluxe model. Hate to see the lower end versions or one used for hauling loads repair bills. Absolutely rediculous!
I've replaced a starter, timing chain/waterpump all one time only on my 1991 Toyota truck and thats it other than maintenence items such as belts/battery,tires and brakes. My Toyota has over 185,000 miles on it all city driving since 53,000 miles when I bought it and still runs like a champ.
This is the reason Toyota is the number 1 car company now. Her truck spends more time at the shop than her machanics car does and he works there....
Well thanks to Dorman co. at least she can get in and out of the p.o.s. so she wont burn to death if it catches fire!
