A New Oxygen Sensor Impacts Your Car!
|
|
|
|
---|---|---|---|
A defective or sluggish oxygen sensor can cause a variety of issues, like decreased engine performance. Replacing a defective O2 sensor helps ensure your engine is constantly monitored and operating efficiently, while maximizing performance. |
The ideal air-fuel ratio of a gasoline engine is 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel, which is known as complete combustion. The vehicle's engine control unit uses an O2 sensor to regulate air-fuel mixture by checking the oxygen content in a vehicle’s exhaust. This results in fuel savings. |
The catalytic converter is responsible for removing the harmful emissions from your vehicle’s exhaust. A defective oxygen sensor can cause your catalytic converter to fail prematurely. Replacing a catalytic converter can cost thousands of dollars, significantly more than most standard oxygen sensor replacements. |
If complete combustion is not maintained, other chemical compounds can form in large amounts. These include greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide and excess hydrocarbons. Replacing a defective oxygen sensor is the most effective way to control the combustion process and reduce emissions. |
Product Description
Every Bosch Oxygen Sensor benefits from the technological and manufacturing experience gained from decades of production, since first inventing the Oxygen Sensor in the late 1960's, ensuring long-lasting, superior performance that you can count on. Bosch Oxygen Sensors are 100% tested for full functionality, resulting in a seared appearance of the protection tube, to ensure every Bosch manufactured sensor meets Bosch's rigorous standards for quality and performance. Exclusive double laser-welded stainless steel body is totally submersible and sealed tight to protect against damage from exhaust emissions — ensuring a longer sensor service life. Fast-acting heater optimizes sensor operation on Planar and 3, 4, and 5 wire Thimble type sensors allowing the oxygen sensor to reach its operating temperature quicker – within seconds – for optimum performance. True Direct-fit OE connectors and harnesses, along with threads pre-coated with anti-seize compound right out of the box, make installation simple and hassle-free. It’s critical that oxygen sensors are replaced at the suggested intervals provided by vehicle manufacturers before the sensor fails. Following the recommendations will prevent long term damage to a vehicle’s engine, reduce harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and save money when refueling your vehicle.

These sensors come already coated with some grease and glass beads in the threads as and anti-seize measure. I added a bit of extra anti-seize myself since these can be difficult to remove.
Of course when you remove these you should do it with a hot exhaust to make them easier to remove. In some cases one has to use a torch to heat up the area to be able to get them out. Or you might get lucky and it comes out easily. So just not to take chances I think it is a good practice to use some extra anti-seize in case you need to replace the sensor again.
Also depending upon the location you might want to add some metal to cover the wires. There are various ways to do this including metal tape. The stock on had braided metal over the wires and it is possible to cut it off and attach it to the new one. Since the wires to the sensor are so close to hot exhaust it is not a bad idea to come up with some sort of preventative measure such as this during your install.
So a very inexpensive replacement part that works like stock and is easy to install save for those possible removable issues.
After driving with a check engine light on for 5 years, and changing both Oxygen Sensors numerous times, a friend suggested a Bosch sensor.
Well, happy days have arrived! Easy install, 20 minutes, plug in play, cleared the bad codes and my dash no longer has a check engine light.
Moral of this review, if I purchased the more expensive one, I would have saved gas that would have paid for it!
I do miss my motel 6 light being on- NOT LOL
When I received the items the packaging appeared in new condition. The sensors were also packed as such. So I proceeded with installation. An hour and a test drive later the job was done. The ECM was seeing the sensor, so I assumed the problem was fixed and I'd get a different code unrelated to the sensors given my other issues.
The next day my wife tells me the check engine light is on. I plug in my reader and notice that, even though the sensor is present, the voltage was not changing. I did also have a code for the downstream O2 sensor. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I reset one more time. The problem returned the next day.
I didn't have time to wait for a new part to come from Amazon and to return this one, so I purchased another locally. When installed the locally purchased Bosch unit responded with voltage changes. The code cleared. Two days later I got a code for my real problem, which then gave me the information I needed to fix the car.
I did notice some differences between the no good sensor and the locally purchased one in terms of the printing on it's body. The bad unit had less information. Maybe it missed a quality check or something. I put the bad unit back in the box for the store bought one and returned it for a full refund. Still, this was a hassle I would have rather not had 3 days before needing the vehicle. Hopefully it doesn't happen next time I purchase a part on Amazon.
