Product Description

Since 1951, Tetra has developed the world’s most comprehensive body of fish food knowledge, and fishkeeping enthusiasts have looked to the brand for products and solutions that add ease and beauty to their home. Whether you're an experienced hobbyist or just starting out, Tetra has everything you need – from a large variety of quality fish food and innovative equipment to test kits and decor. The Tetra® Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filter helps keep pond water clear and healthy. Using both mechanical and biological filtration to help maintain clear and healthy pond water, this easy-to-use filter features unique, open-profile bio-activators to provide a large surface area to clean with maximum efficiency as pond water is forced through. After running through the cycle, the filtered water is returned to the pond by waterfall or stream. Once your pond is clean, the last thing on your mind is getting your hands dirty cleaning out the filter. That’s why we designed an easy backflush valve that can help you complete the cleaning process efficiently. You won’t even need to open up the filter; just remove the backflush cap and you’re good to go. Backflushing prevents dirt buildup so that all surface areas of the bio-activator media can remain active for biological activity. With its robust functionality, this filter works for ponds up to 1,500 gallons.

The Easy Solution for a Clear and Healthy Pond

The TetraPond Bio-Active Pressure Filter works to keep your pond clean and healthy with both mechanical and biological filtration. This easy-to-use filter features a unique open profile bio-activator that provides a large surface area and unrestricted water flow to all surfaces for improved filtering. A simple back flush valve allows for fast cleaning.

Model Capacity BP1500 1,500 Gallons BP2500 2,500 Gallons BP4000 4,000 Gallons

How it Works

  1. Water is pumped from the pond to the pressure filter.
  2. Water is mechanically and biologically filtered.
  3. Filtered water is forced under pressure to the waterfall or stream.
Mechanical Filtration

Pond water flows down through the bio-activators which remove suspended debris and dirt from the water.

Biological Filtration

Biological Filtration occurs on the massive surface areas found in the bio-activators. Beneficial bacteria will naturally colonize on the surface area and convert harmful pollutants in the water into relatively harmless nitrates, which are absorbed by the aquatic plants and removed by partial water changes. This is known as the “Nitrogen Cycle”.

Bio-Activators

TetraPond Bio-Active Pressure Filters come equipped with bio-activators which offer superior filtration and back flush performance over foam. In normal filtration operation, these bio-activators easily trap dirt and debris from your pond and because of their shape they provide a large active surface area for the beneficial bacteria to colonize for upgraded biological filtration. During the back flush operation, bio-activators provide unrestricted water flow to all the surfaces so that dirt and debris are thoroughly removed while leaving the beneficial bacteria on the bio-activator surfaces intact and robust.

Easy Back Flush Capabilities

  1. The water is reversed and forced down the center tube.
  2. The water jets create a whirlpool effect in the bio-activator chamber.
  3. Dirt and debris is loosened from the bio-activators.
  4. Dirty water is discharged out the back flush port into the garden.

Enhance Your Filtration Performance

For high performance, power your TetraPond Bio-Active Pressure Filter with a Tetra Pond DHP series clog-free debris handling pump. This combination of pump and filter provides the easy solution for pond maintenance and care.

Do not use with pumps that exceed 4500 gallons per hour. This could damage the filter.

Do not use pumps with flows less than 2500 gal/hr. A minimum of 2500 gallons per hour is necessary to perform the back flush operation.

Note: All pressure filters restrict the flow from your pump. Expect about a 45% reduction in the water flow through the filter.

Took a little while to clear the pond but it looks better than ever!

Took a little while to clear the pond but it looks better than ever!
We have a 1500 gallon pond that we've been just sort of winging it since we bought the house 4 years ago. The summers are hot in NC and the algea gets out of control. We also have a lot of trees dropping debri in the pond. We finally got in there and scooped a lot of the crap out which made the water very murky. We had a pump and filter combo from AquaSource that was so nasty to clean out. In the summertime we would have to clean it two or three times a week just to get the water to circulate through the pump. On a local Facebook group I asked what kind of pump I could use that would not get clogged up and everyone suggested the Tetra large debris pump with this filter hooked up to it. The first couple days we were pretty disappointed that we didn't see much clarity. However, after 3 weeks the pawn looks better than it's ever looked. Because the pond was so scummy and murky to begin with, I did the back flush every other day to clean out the filter and added fresh water to the pond since the backflush causes a lot of water loss into the yard. So we've had it for about a month now and the back flush option is really awesome. One thing to be mindful of is the attachment sizes of this unit are rather large (1 1/4 and 1 1/2). It's hard to find pond tubing that size locally And we also ended up having to buy a new waterfall box because our old waterfall box only had a 3/4 in max inlet. So if you end up going with this filter, I would definitely recommend buying your hosing in any other accessories you need online. We used the Tetra large debris handling 3000 gallon pump with this and it's working great.

We have an indoor turtle pond. About 150 gallons with 1 turtle and a few big gold fish. The turtle has access to large sandy rock suning area so is always carrying debrie back with her.

For not having an ultra violet light or spounge media I was amazed at how well this cleared up the water. When I put this is we did a 1/2 water exchange and things were stirred up pretty good. We had removed a waterfall and some plant material as well. The water was horrible looking but by the next morning it was nice and clear. In the pic there may be a little haze.... had to go find the air bubbler after removing waterfall to turn water over.

The 4 stars instead of 5 is that this suffers from leakage from the "back wash" port just like every other model I have owned.... but this one does it from the start..... but it comes with a stop block for the port so at least they acknowledge this flaw and provide a solution from the start.

In the summer I will buy an UV chamber to add in line somewhere but for the price you really can't ask for much better. If anything happens that would change this review I will update but highly recommended so far.

Not sure if this product works yet however right after starting the 3 way valve leaks so I always have water coming out the backflush and pond outlet. I have rotated the handle to try and clear it as well as having it lined up perfectly with the arrows but that was worse. Also unfortunately the 4000gph unit does not have a UV.
