Adjustable Burr Grinder

Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder

The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder with adjustable grind is our premier coffee grinder.

Our conical burr crushes beans as opposed to slicing them (with your typical blade grinder); ensuring consistency, while preserving the bean’s intrinsic flavor and aroma.

This burr grinder is continuously adjustable - twisting the upper bean container determines how finely ground the beans will be. 12 settings from coarse to fine, you can deliver the ideal grind for any brewing method.

The Bistro coffee grinder comes with a static-free borosilicate glass container with rubberized grip to catch and safely transfer the grounds while preventing 'jumping' coffee grounds.

Fully Adjustable Settings

Push button, pre-set timer allows users to grind the exact amount of coffee needed, keeping beans fresh and preventing waste.

Adjustable grind allows users to go from Espresso to French Press with ease.

The BISTRO Electric Burr Grinder comes with an attractive, static-free borosilicate glass PRESSO container that conveniently sits within the base of the unit to collect ground coffee during use and also features a non-slip silicone band for secure handling. The BISTRO Electric Burr Grinder is made from borosilicate glass, steel, plastic, rubber and silicone.

Great little grinder for what it is!
5 Stars
Great little grinder for what it is!
I'm really enjoying my Bodum Bistro after using it for a few weeks. I received the Bodum pour-over carafe for Christmas and after doing some research on economy / home burr grinders I decided to invest in the matching Bistro conical burr grinder.Assembly was devastatingly simple. After unboxing it, I think I had it up and running in under a minute.Functionality is great and simple to use. There's not much to it- an on/off switch, a timer (to control grind "dosing"), a secondary 'on' button to initiate grinding, and the grind setting which adjusts by twisting the bean hopper. The grind time isn't too fast (which is good. you don't want to heat your beans. slower is better). It takes about 10 or 12 seconds to grind 30-38 grams of beans, which is about 3-4 tablespoons / scoops. Noise level is moderate. Quieter than my blade grinder, but still fairly noisy especially when the hopper is empty and beans aren't being ground. I'd liken it to an air popper or an immersion blender.Grind consistency is really good, though I'd say the differentiation between grind settings is minute. I find the pour-over setting is too fine and often adjust to be closer to the French-press setting. I don't see why this wouldn't work to make espresso with a pressurized portafilter (might not be fine enough for a bottomless portafilter).Design is great, construction is decent; you get what you pay for. The body is rubberized, which I find modern and pleasant. The hopper is plastic, which doesn't bother me any as I don't store my beans in there anyways (always measure / weigh your beans! consistency is important! don't rely on the timer, and please don't store your beans in the hopper. use a light-proof / air-resistant container. i use a ceramic croc). The lid to the hopper is decent and serves its purpose (also rubberized, and a sturdy plastic), but again- I don't store my beans in there anyways and it only serves to prevent beans / fines from flying out when in use.The glass catcher- I don't know if it's just mine, but I find fines / chaff still clinging to the surface despite being advertised to reduce static. Not a big deal though- I just give it a sturdy slam on my rubber trivet and swirl the grounds around to remove some of the fines. I guess after thinking about it, it DOES reduce static. I find I use my coffee brush MUCH less than when I was using my blade grinder. Sometimes I find a tiny bit of grounds falling out of the grinder once I remove the catcher (again, no big deal. just brush them into your hand and into your catcher / filter).Overall I'm very pleased with this product and it's a SIGNIFICANT upgrade from my Hamilton Beach Custom Grind blade grinder. It's a great little grinder for what it is (an introductory home burr grinder). It's not great (and by great I mean industrial / professional grade quality), but if you're thinking about making the jump between blade to burr grinding (or pre-ground to home grinding) this is a great investment. The difference between cups is glaringly apparent and noticeably better. Not as a negative discourse, but the bottom line is the design is more impressive than the functionality / output, so if you're not keen on how it looks you might get a little more out of your grind settings by springing for the Baratza Encore. I love the way it looks and it gets the job done (and does it well).

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistent grinds, reliable machine
Reviewed in Canada on December 31, 2019
I bought this almost two years ago for the office (purchased in March 2018), where it has working without issue. It’s used 2-3 times per day every workday, and receives virtually no love (or cleaning out).

At home, I’ve had a Cuisinart DBM-8C and am now using a Braun KG7070 which I’ll compare to in this review.

WALK-AROUND – Bodum Bistro
This grinder has an all-plastic exterior (except the glass output jar). The plastic is matte which makes it look surprisingly good. The bean hopper can be rotated to allow you to select grind coarseness. On the top of the unit is the timer dial (allows you to select 5 to 20second grind times) and a “go” button. On the side of the unit is a power button. At the office, we leave the timer set to approximately 8 seconds (press “go” once for a half pot, twice for a full pot) and the power button is always on.

NORMAL USE
This grinder works like most other grinders – pour in your beans, replace the hopper lid, select coarseness, select grind time and hit Start. Ground coffee lands in the lower hopper, and you can pull it out, remove the lid, and dump into your coffee maker. The lower hopper is glass which minimizes static cling relative to the grinders I’ve used at home. Also, because the grinds come from above, the unit is not prone to “leaking” grinds or getting jammed.

CONSISTENCY & GRIND QUALITY
Coarseness can be adjusted over a large scale to allow fine-tuning; there are images to suggest what coarseness is appropriate for the type of coffee being made. Grind quality is excellent in the “drip filter” range, and very consistent. We don’t grind espresso or have a French press at the office, so I can’t comment on those settings.

NOISE LEVEL
This grinder is incredibly loud, much louder than my Cuisinart or Braun units at home. Not a big deal, but if quiet operation is important, check out the Braun 7070.

THE GOOD
+ Stands up well under high use
+ Consistent grind quality
+ No issues with clogging
+ No mess or “leakage” of grinds that I experience with other grinders

THE BAD
- Lid on fresh bean hopper fits loosely; should provide airtight seal
- High price relative to other grinders
- Occasionally the timer “kicks” out immediately and you need to re-press

OTHER NOTES
There is a similar-looking Bodum grinder that costs less – it doesn’t include a timer. I strongly recommend buying a grinder with a timer (such as this one) for easy and consistent pots of coffee.

OVERALL
I’ve been recommending this grinder since we got one for the office, and two friends have picked one up in that time – both are happy with it. The only caveat is that if you require quiet operation, you should consider another option (I suggest Braun 7070, but this unit requires additional cleaning because of the rear-fed grind hopper design).
