I installed this unit in a 3 bay garage. It does make a difference. In combination with a standard space heater at one end of the garage and this heater at the other it brought the entire garage from about 40f to 65f in about an hour.I already had 240 volt outlet for my Lincoln Mig welder however I had to swap out the outlet to match the plug on the heater. Lowes had it for about $6. I also purchased a wall mounted bike hanger at Lowes for about $6 and used it to hang the heater from. The bike hanger is rated at 50 lbs, has two curvy rods coming from it, is about a foot long and folds against the wall when not in use. The center of the carrying handle on the heater slid onto it nicely.I read other reviews on here about the lack of a shut off switch on the heater but if you turn down the thermostat all the way it will not cycle on and off. Not sure if the heater would cycle on if it gets cold enough, the power light does stay lit.As far as noise, someone on here mentioned that it puts out about as much as a box fan on medium. I would agree with that.Biggest con I have and it is mentioned on here a few times is the thermostat. It is sloppy as most space heaters are. When the heater shuts off the thermostat should be right before the "heater on" temperature, but you can turn the thermostat up almost 1/4" before the heater clicks on. If you are thinking about installing an external thermostat good luck finding one. It requires a 30A 2 pole thermostat. The 30A is the hard part, I couldn’t find even one. Most are between 20-25A. So in lieu of creating a relay circuit from the thermostat to the heater the only thermostat I could find that comes close to 30A is here on Amazon: Dr. Heater Thermostat DR-001The Dr. Heater DR-001 thermostat is listed at 28A and has a shut off switch. User manual states the NewAir G56 heater draws 23.4A during operations. So given the 80% rule: 28 X .8 = 22.4 (1 amp short of the 80% rule). But if you look at the user manual for the Dr. Heater Wall/Ceiling Mount DR966, that heater requires a 35A breaker and is listed at 3000/6000 Watts. The same user manual also states that the Dr. Heater Thermostat DR-001 is recommended for the Dr. Heater DR-001 heater. The NewAir heater requires a 30A breaker and is listed at 5600 Watts…. Go figure. For the time being I will be using the thermostat built into the heater. It is sloppy but with enough adjusting you can get it where you like it. Bad thing is to shut it off you have to turn the thermostat all the way down. There goes your fine tuning. But it does work…. A dedicated on/off switch would at least allow you to leave the adjustment alone. So I thought about installing an on/off switch in the circuit and leave the thermostat alone. I found this one here on Amazon that should work: Leviton MS302-DS 30 AmpBut – if the thermostat on the heater does go out or gets worse then I will be trying the Dr. Heater DR-001 thermostat and since that thermostat has an on/off switch built in then wasting the money on the Leviton switch is not needed. For now I’ll run it as is, I think the heater is working fine and I can deal with the thermostat issue. Compared to the thermostat on a standard space heater it’s no surprise. All in all I’m satisfied with the purchase although I did take off 1 star for the thermostat.
