How Does a Cold Air Intake Work and Why Should I Replace the One That Came With My Vehicle?
In a standard air intake system, air passes through a disposable paper filter and then flows into the engine through a complex system of tubing. K&N cold air intake systems provide a less restrictive path for airflow, increasing the volume of cool, oxygen-rich air into your engine. A performance air filter is paired with specially designed tubing and a custom air box or heat shield (engineered to protect the intake air from the heat of the engine), which in combination deliver a guaranteed increase in horsepower and torque.

Increased Horsepower & Torque- GuaranteedYes, K&N intakes really do increase horsepower and torque; in fact, it's guaranteed. Each intake kit undergoes significant testing to help ensure that the air filter and intake tube are positioned to deliver large increases in airflow and horsepower. |
Less Restriction = More Engine GrowlBy removing excess stock baffles, you get to enjoy a satisfying engine growl on acceleration that returns to quiet once at speed. The amount of growl is all in your hands… or should we say feet. Growl while accelerating on the open road and return to quiet as you drive through your neighborhood. |
Proudly Made in the USAK&N products are designed and manufactured on-site, and all of our Cold Air Intakes are made in the USA. K&N is headquartered in Riverside, California, and also operates facilities in Grand Prairie, Texas. Our US based, knowledgeable customer support staff is available to assist you with any questions or concerns. |
No Substitution for the Original- The Difference a K&N Filter Makes in Your Vehicle
Increased performance starts with K&N’s reusable, air filter, which combines layers of pleated, breathable cotton with K&N’s signature red filter oil. Paper air filters, while efficient, can become quickly clogged as their pores fill with dirt and debris. K&N’s oiled cotton filter absorbs dirt and dust particles rather than physically blocking them. The tacky, oiled particles that collect in the filter become an asset to the filtration rather than an obstacle, capturing new particles entering the system while still allowing a high volume of airflow to pass through. This allows clean air to continue flowing into your engine.
Unlike disposable paper filters, which typically last for 12-15,000 miles before they must be replaced, the high-performance K&N filter included with your intake can go up to 75,000 miles before needing to be cleaned (under normal driving conditions).

---|---|---|---|
Why is Dyno Testing Important & How Can I Tell if It’s Accurate?K&N's air intake horsepower/torque testing is performed at our in-house facilities in Riverside, CA on wheel-based dynamometers and help provide a power estimate that is likely to more closely reflect real-world conditions than an engine-based dynamometer. K&N’s standard testing is designed to measure relative power differences on a vehicle with and without K&N products installed, and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) correction factors are utilized to help ensure accuracy. If you notice horsepower claims from other manufacturers that seem too good to be true, we encourage you to do your own research. Check the dynamometer reports for vehicles, dates tested, and if correction factors are used. |
How Does a K&N Intake Protect Your Engine? Most disposable paper filters create a large amount of airflow restriction, as the openings in the filter media have to be extremely small to filter efficiently—which slows airflow. Because dust accumulates on the surface of the disposable filter and blocks the openings in the media, the filter will typically become increasingly more restrictive to airflow over time. Conversely, K&N oiled filters are engineered to become more efficient over their recommended service life as dirt and contaminants are integrated into the filter media, while still allowing a high volume of air through to the system. This allows you to continue to get the performance you expect from your K&N intake, while also being able to rely on the cutting-edge efficiency and protection that a K&N oiled air filter provides. |
What's the Difference Between a Roto-Molded and an Aluminum Intake Tube? Both a Roto-Molded and an Aluminum Intake Tube from K&N provide the same increase of air flow to your engine. It all comes down to how you want it to look in your vehicle. If you enjoy a more custom look under the hood, the Aluminum Tube is a great choice. |
What Does the Heat Shield Do and Is That Better Than a Closed Air Box?Both the custom heat shield and HDPE air box help protect the incoming air from the heat of your engine. They both have unique features and which one you choose is a personal preference based on those features. High-performance drivers may want an open filter element and heat shield for even greater airflow. Off-roaders may prefer an intake system with a custom air box, which helps protect against dust, dirt, and moisture and offers additional filter protection from extremely dirty environments or water crossings. Options with an enclosed air box give you the freedom to adventure while offering easy access to the air filter for quick cleaning and maintenance — no special tools required. |
Easy to Install
Installing an intake kit might seem intimidating, especially if it's your first DIY car modification, but thankfully you don't have to be a seasoned mechanic to successfully install a cold air intake yourself. While every kit is slightly different (since they are designed to be a perfect fit in the engine bay of specific year/make/models), installation can typically be completed in 60 minutes or less and requires only simple hand tools. Detailed, step-by-step instructions are included with each kit.

My new SIlverado seemed to "stutter" a little bit when accelerating. I eventually got used to it, assuming that's the way the new trucks drove. (I previously owned a '03 Silverado) Being an avid Amazon shopper I recently stumbled upon the K&N 63 Series AirCharger. After reading all the reviews and pondering spending about $240 for a few days, I broke down and bought it.
SHIPPING:
Fast as Always (Prime). The box came undamaged, but there were a lot of loose, tiny pieces of hardware at the bottom of the box (washers, nuts) However, this did not end up causing any problems.
INSTALL:
I have never really done much mechanic work other than on small Briggs & Stratton engines, but I found the installation to be pretty straight forward. When you remove the stock intake and first see the new K&N, you realize how bulky/ugly the stock intake really is. I used the directions that came with the Intake, as well as a YouTube video during the install. I took a few breaks during the installation, but I would say the complete install took me about 2 1/2 hours. It does require some drilling, but only a little. I found the whole installation process to be relatively easy, yet slightly time consuming.
PERFORMANCE:
Wow! The new intake looks GREAT. It really "cleans up" under the hood. I couldn't wait to take it for a spin! When at idle, I didn't notice any difference in sound (when sitting in the drivers seat). But, when I took off down the road, I knew I had made a good purchase. Not only does the engine respond quicker when accelerating, but it sounds amazing! It feels like it breathes SO much better, and it has a great "growl" between 30-50 mph. I didn't know my truck could sound like this. I originally bought the intake for improved acceleration (which exceeded my expectations), but the new engine sound was the cherry on top! (its not an annoying sound at all) I love cruising around town with a truck that sounds better, has more power, and might possibly have better fuel economy (haven't tested it yet)
OVERALL:
If you are considering purchasing this intake, and don't mind spending money on increasing the performance of your vehicle, DO IT!
I'm glad I did.
Directions are ok; lots of turning to the front page, parts diagram. I had put some parts together, only to discover I had done so wrong; took apart and re-installed correctly. Last time I installed a K & N, it took less than an hour. This time, probably closer to 90 minutes.
Installed on a 2014 GMC Yukon Denali, 6.2. Fit perfectly, zero issues.
Only thing I added was two hose clamps for the Breather Hose, so it was more positively installed.
I don't hear much sound difference (last time, 2005 Yukon 5.3, it was more noticeable).
It does make the vehicle feel more responsive, with more power. Mileage, I'm unsure about... for now
Pro's: Easy installation. Noticeable sound change under the hood and from the exhaust. More powerful and muscular to say the least. Much cheaper purchasing from Amazon vs local stores. Easy to follow instruction, fast delivery.
Con's: You have to drill a hole to secure the heat shield. I don't really like to drill holes in my vehicles. It wont stop you from installing it if you choose not to. The heat shield wall goes in place with and L bracket and uses the existing molded inserts, so the drilling in my opinion is optional.
Not sure if the MPG will change or not, depends on how I drive I guess. But I did notice a improved throttle response and power increase.
In my opinion worth the money. All trucks and performance cars should come like this.
***Update***
I have had this installed for over a year now and I can report it does improve fuel economy on the highway especially. I havent had any issues. On one of my last decent 300 mile each way trips I averaged around 22 mpg at average 75 to 85 mph cruise control speed. Barely going over 2100 rpm at that rate. So it does help and worth the money in my opinion still.

super easy install. If you have the tools and the know how 40min tops. Runs nicely no general change in milage but a noticeable change in peddle response. Stock intake runners have huge plenums to reduce noise and seem to make it the peddle a little sluggish if you're looking for it.
