Product Description
The PUR 7 Cup Water Filter Pitcher offers refreshing water quickly and easily. Each PUR water filter is certified to reduce mercury and certain industrial pollutants, as well as reducing chlorine (taste and odor) and more. The filter lasts up to 2 months and gives you 40 gallons (or 640 8oz cups) of great-tasting water. PUR’s superior filter technology uses activated carbon and ion exchange media and is certified to reduce 2x more contaminants than Brita’s leading water pitcher filter. The PUR filtered water pitcher has a slim, space-saving design that fits easily in the fridge, while the comfort-grip handle and easy-fill lid make it easy to use. A water filtration system is important because tap water may look clean but can contain potentially harmful contaminants from pipes. Compatible water filter replacements are not certified to offer the same water quality – genuine PUR Filters are the only filters certified for use in PUR systems. Using a PUR water filter system can save up to $1,000 per year on average compared with the cost of bottled water** and help keep plastic bottle waste out of landfills. Each replacement water filter provides 40 gallons of filtered water or up to 2 months of typical use. PUR has been developing innovative technologies for superior water filtration for over 30 years. We believe life deserves PUR water. Disclaimers: PUR does not filter microbes.*Versus best-selling Brita® pitcher filter OB03. Brita® is a trademark of Brita LP.**Based on comparing a year's worth of bottled water (16.9 oz) to a PUR Dispenser a year's worth of 9 refills. Based on Nielsen US Scantrack sales.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I installed the replacement filter. The filter that came with the pitch was the older model. The replacement PUR sent me was the new and improved "faster" model advertised to filter "twice as fast".
I put 2 cups of water in the reservoir and it emptied in 2 minutes! That same amount of water took 20 minutes with the old filter so this new filter is 10x faster according to my test. I could see the water go down. No water came out from around the filter mount so I know it was sealed tight with the o-ring.
I am very pleased with the new filter. Note that this one does not filter lead but neither did the old model.
Original Review:
I've had this 7-cup pitcher for about a month now and I have mixed feelings about it. I really want to like this pitcher as I am drinking more water now but the slow-to-no filtering is frustrating.
When I first got it, I followed the directions and soaked the filter for 15 minutes before inserting it. I filled the top reservoir with 2 cups of water and timed it to see how long it took the water to filter through. After 40 minutes, only half of the water went through. PUR includes an insert card with instructions for what to do if the filter performs slowly (not a good sign). I shook the filter and rinsed it upside down to clear the ports as recommended. After that, I restarted the test and after 40 minutes most of the water had filtered through. I refilled the reservoir (it holds about 2-1/2 to 3 cups of water) and put the pitcher in the refrigerator overnight.
The next morning, the water had all gone through. I used 2 cups and added 2 cups back in. This time it took about 30 minutes for most of the water to filter through. There was about 1/2 cup left in the top but it eventually went through before I used it again later that day.
After a few days, the best time I got was about 10 minutes per cup or 30 minutes for a full reservoir.
After a week, it completely stopped filtering. One evening, I filled the reservoir and by the next morning there was still water in the reservoir. I emptied the reservoir and then shook and rinsed the filter. That got it working again for another week when it would stop working again. Rinse and repeat.
With two days left in my return window, I called PUR Customer Service. The woman I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. She told me that the normal time for the reservoir to empty in the 7-cup model is one hour so my 30 minutes was well within specs. What was not normal was for it to stop working entirely after one week and requiring me to shake and rinse it. PUR is sending me a "one time courtesy" replacement filter to try. I'm hoping I just got a bad filter but I don't know.
The other thing I discovered during this time is not to fill it directly from the tap. The bubbles from the aerator get trapped in the filter cartridge and stop the water flow. When that happens, the way I found to clear it is to slosh the water around in the reservoir; you'll see the air bubbles will come up through the filter and the water will start filtering again. If that fails, empty the reservoir and start over. The best way to fill it is to fill a measuring cup, or some other container, first to let the air bubbles escape then pour that water into the reservoir.
