I like this Fino Pour Over because it is large and plastic and also covers the top of the mug to not let as much heat out. The Melitta brand has a "view" window cut in and I feel the coffee isn't as hot after brewing.
For darker coffee you can pour over the same liquid twice for stronger flavor or add more grounds. I use 2 scoops of coffee in mine. I like to add some ground cacao beans for a lovely "brewed chocolate" essence with my coffee. I have not tried loose tea leaves or mushroom coffee grounds to know how that is.
I prefer the pour over because it is easy to clean compared to the blasted french press and travels well without breaking in my luggage, allowing me to take and make the perfect brew anywhere. I have been using plastic pour-over daily for 3 years and am not aware of a plastic taste. The cone filters are not hard to find at most stores and a pack of 100 last me 100 days. I prefer the Walmart brand Great Value #4 Cone Coffee Filters, 100 count for $3.
Hope this review helps you along your perfect cup of hot brew journey!
I've experimented quite a bit with it and I'd note that I don't love a drip coffee maker (electric or otherwise) because it doesn't have the full body and flavor I prefer, but this is effective.
It is noted it has two drip holes: absolutely true. It does. It brews fast, so pour v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. Stir while you pour once or twice to stir up the grounds and get them exposed. Saturate all of the coffee, so swirl as you pour getting all particles wet. Keep the flow steady to make a strong brew. I like to keep my water temperature around 180 degrees. Boiling is too hot and makes bitter coffee.
I use a no. 4 permanent filter and the fit in this device is so-so, but it works. This lets more sediment through than paper filters but is more environmentally friendly when backpacking (less trash). Also makes your cup a little stronger.
Works on a carafe/pot from 2.75" diameter up to over 5" diameter -- with the top end of that range coming because the handle protrudes at exactly the same point as the ring does giving you almost an extra inch beyond the ring if you rest the bottom of the handle on the brim of the pot on one side. I can easily make up to 1.5 liters of coffee at a time with this (more than four large 12 oz. cups, more than six cups that were 8 oz. and more than eight cups that were a measly 6 oz. like coffeemakers like to pretend is average). Never had a need to make more, but I'd think it would make even more if pushed.
