Quote from listing,
“Comes with bearings, 2.25" ID seals, 2.125" ID seals, lug nuts, solid grease caps, ez lube grease caps, cotter pins, spindle washers, tang washers, spindle nuts, and brake mounting washers and nuts”
Box did not contain: 2.125" ID seals, ez lube grease caps, cotter pins, spindle washers, tang washers, spindle nuts, and brake mounting washers and nuts.
Most of the missing/incorrectly listed parts are are unnecessary but the tang washers are needed and the solid caps would be nice to actually have :(
If it weren’t for the missing parts it looks like it would be a 5 star product, time/miles will tell.
Brake assembly (pads and magnet driver)
Rotor
Inner & outer bearings for the rotor
Grease gasket
Wheel nuts
I'm no parts manufacturer but from a preliminary assessment here's what I found:
The finish on the brake assembly is decent, I cannot tell if the paint is sprayed or powder coated. The electrical lines aren't too short but are lighter gauge wire than I was expecting for the brakes.
The rotor came a little oily but a quick wipe down before installation made this a nonissue.
The bearings were very clean, though they were loose in a paper parts bag, no sealed container/bag to prevent foreign material. They were a good tight fit in the housings on the rotor.
The grease gasket is a pressure fit light gauge steel plate with a rubber compression sleeve adhered to the inner ring and tension is maintained with what appears to be a spring inside the compression sleeve.
The reason I only gave this product a 3 is for two reasons:
There was no literature whatsoever from the manufacturer. I had to do a lot of research to make sure I installed these correctly. This may seem like no big deal but generally speaking manufacturers want to make sure consumers use/maintain their product "correctly" so as to absolve themselves from warranty claims arising from product failure. Either that or they actually stand behind their product. Even though most of the time product manuals wind up in a never-to-be-used drawer, it says something about the manufacturer to have supplied one.
The second reason is the big one which makes me sure I will not use this brand again and it is the grease gasket on ALL FOUR ROTORS popped out of place when grease was being charged into the bearing housing. The manufacturer's description clearly stated these assemblies work with Dexter EZ Lube axles which would mean if you're pumping grease into the axle then your gasket should hold, right? Wrong. I checked the first assembly after it made a "pop" noise while filling it with grease and found the gasket out of place. I figured it wasn't in tight enough and moved on. After the third made the same noise and grease did not make it's way back to the front bearing did I realize this was not installer error. I don't have time to disassemble each rotor and repack the gasket but I fear I'll have to or else grease will get on the surface where the brake pads apply their pressure and will effectually keep the brake from operating correctly.
I use this trailer almost daily for my work and having to waste a day to make sure the product operates like it's supposed to really hurts. I'm almost tempted to find replacement gaskets because I'm not confident the ones on right now will not fail with time and put me back in the same position.
