    High quality from Noco
    5 Stars
    High quality from Noco
Quality: I previously bought a Noco jump starter, and based on the quality of that unit, I ordered this 125V Power Inlet Plug. Here’s what I’m using it for. I have a small pop-up trailer that came with the usual 30-amp power inlet. I have been using an adapter to convert the 30 amp to 15 amp right at the inlet. Then I use a 12-gauge extension cord to connect to shore power. The adapter has already become hot which compromised the plastic in it. I’d rather just have a 15-amp inlet so I don’t have to use another link (the adapter) in the system. The more unnecessary links you have in a system, the more chances there are for something to go wrong.I removed the factory microwave as we have no need for it when doing off-grid camping. Additionally, these pop-ups have such limited storage, so we converted the microwave cavity into a cupboard. We specifically ordered the trailer without AC. All that’s left to run off shore power is the low-voltage side of the power-station/converter and the 3-way fridge when running on shore power to cool it down. There’s no need for 30 amp anything in this trailer. The simplify matters, I’ll install the inlet plug. To hook the six-foot cord to the breaker, I’ll cut off the female receptacle, strip the wires and install ferrules on the 14 gauge-stand wire. Why the ferrules? Running set screws on the circuit breaker or ground bus on stranded wire is asking for big trouble.I’ll also switch out the 30-amp main breaker to a 15-amp one as that’s the rating for 14 AWG cord. This will be a sweet install when it’s completed. There is a reviewer that knocked off a star for what he claimed was not well-thought-out engineering on Noco’s part.. Unfortunately, he did not understand how to properly install the Noco unit. He said the water would drain out onto the mounting screw. He installed his unit with the mounting screws at 2, 6, and 10 o’clock. That puts the ground prong at the bottom with the mounting screw at 6 o’clock. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. In commercial applications, the ground prong of the receptacle is mounted at the top, and the hot and neutral sockets are below. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know most people install the ground outlet at the bottom. The reason for the at-the-top method is so that if someone drops something like a chain necklace onto a plug that is partially out, the chain will be grounded first. If the hot and neutral blades are up, sparks can and will fly.Noco built their unit correctly. The mounting screws are intended to be mounted in the 4, 8 and 12 o’clock position. Even more obvious is the small vent hole in the cylindrical part of the Power inlet plug. It is intended to be mounted in the UP position and NOT the DOWN position. The correct installation has the angled cord leaving the Power Inlet Plug in the UP position, and NOT in the DOWN position.Edit: I revisiting Noco's diagram, they show the ground prong at the bottom. I'll have to mostly agree with the the reviewer that I commented about. From Noco's diagrams, the reviewer is correct. However, I will still stand that in commercial applications, the ground prong should be in the up position for the reason I stated. I will mount mine in the manner I have described. Noco's schematics definitely suggests to mount it with the ground prong down. Maybe they did goof. However, mounting in the up position and at 4, 8 and 12 o'clock fixes the issue of the screw hole being at 6 o'clock.
