It’s much lighter than my old one, so I can fill, transport and pour a full kettle without experiencing pain. It holds less water than my old enormous ceramic kettle, which makes a big difference in the weight, but the stainless steel of this kettle is also lighter than the ceramic when empty. And this one also happens to hold the perfect amount of water for filling my Tealyra Jove 34 oz porcelain tea pot to the top, or for filling my Fashy hot water bottle. The bottom of the kettle doesn’t get hot, so you can rest it on wood or on any surface without needing a hot pad. It was meant to be! Lol
This kettle has been used MANY times a day— we actually counted, and some days we’ll use it as many as 10 times a day, on average at least 5-6 times a day— for almost 4 months so far, and it still looks and works just like the day we got it! The kettle heats up quickly and reliably, and the design of the pour spout even allows me to fill the fiddly narrow openings of a hot water bottle without burning myself or spilling a drop! And because it’s also easy to hold and handle, I can’t imagine anyone else really needing a different spout for making slow pour coffee (for watering plants I have a traditionally shaped handmade copper watering can with a long curved spout, and it’s easier for me to control pouring with this kettle than it is with the watering can, if that gives you any idea).
We primarily use this for heating water to make cups or pots of tea. And since some are green teas or herbal tisanes that require a cooler temp than those used for making black teas or coffee, I simply poured and tested the water temps at different stages of the boil using an instant read thermometer, to get a “feel” for knowing when my kettle has reached the perfect temp for what I’m making. It’s really not hard to do at all, so I’m not missing out by not having a digital temp control on the kettle itself. You can hear the water inside the kettle as it’s boiling (it’s not annoying loud or anything like that, but all boiling water inside a pot or a lidded stainless kettle will make some sort of sound), and you can begin to see steam releasing from the spout for some additional clues about the temp. So it quickly becomes a no brainer to see and hear and know the right temp range by observation, especially if you’ve ever taken a moment to check it previously with a thermometer. So since we already have an instant read thermometer, a digital control on the kettle would just end up being overkill and would be just another thing that could potentially break. And I’d much rather have a kettle that works well AND also makes me smile every time I walk into the kitchen!
The lid seals well and stays on no matter the angle of pouring, the blue on/off switch lights up when you turn it on and makes a quiet satisfying “click” sound when the auto/off reaches the right temp. The sides and top will feel hot, but I’ve never been burned. Handle isn’t hard to hold, and doesn’t get hot. The cord is plenty long enough for most countertop outlet situations, and any excess cord may be concealed by wrapping inside the built in cord storage area underneath the base. Yeah ok, the inside of the lid and the maximum fill marker are plastic (the max fill marker is inside, on the opposite end of the spout). But your water doesn’t even touch that marker unless you’re filling it too far, which you shouldn’t do anyway to prevent overflow issues. And I’m not worried about ingesting the tiny amount of water that might condense under the lid. The amount of water exposed to plastic is minimal, it’s food safe anyway, and you can’t taste it, if those are your concerns. I avoid plastic whenever I can, but this is so negligible I’m not at all worried. If you’re still worried, I suspect you’d have to use a stainless pot or kettle on the stovetop to heat water, since all electric kettles I’ve seen will at least have a small amount of food safe plastic or silicone in these same areas (some have more plastic than others).
The polished stainless kettle is much easier to clean than it might seem (just wipe down the outside with a clean towel), and because it’s so beautiful, I actually *like* keeping it clean and dry. ;) I don’t keep water stored inside the kettle because I prefer using fresh water that hasn’t been sitting out or previously boiled (fresh always tastes better), but it’s probably also best not to leave water sitting inside anything metal, anyway. I don’t dry the inside of the kettle between uses after emptying it, and I haven’t seen any rust. I’ll update if I ever do, but I’m not thinking it will. After a month, there was some light deposit forming on the bottom of the kettle (from heating the minerals in the water), but it wasn’t anything a little vinegar or Barkeeper’s Friend and a quick wash with water and dish soap won’t take care of (I used BKF since it was handy, but Bodum recommends a vinegar soak every now and then. And I probably wouldn’t use anything abrasive like BKF, or anything other than a bit cream of tartar to remove water spots from the polished outer surfaces— so far I haven’t even needed to do that). Can you tell how much I love this kettle?! ;)

Overall, very happy with a beautiful, functional work of art.

Capacity~~some have complained that it doesn’t hold enough for their needs but for me it is perfect. I use it for a gargantuan mug of tea and my oatmeal in the morning and it is perfect. The smaller capacity, compared to the 1.7L types, makes it so easy to handle and to make room for. I have very limited space so it’s perfect for me.
Aesthetic~~it is very pretty if the design appeals to you. The handle is pleasing and smooth and complements the pot. It does not move back and forth. The rivets match the exterior of my home 😉.
Price~~I think it is overpriced but I couldn’t resist the rivet thing.
As I mentioned, it’s lightweight and that means the metal is thin compared to the hefty tea pots I have owned and loved in the past but I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. Time will tell.
