2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Uses R-1234yf refrigerant.
R-1234yf has a left hand thread, so spin the can opposite to connect it to the hose.
Also, the top of the can isn’t pierced (like R-12 or R134 cans). It has a valve that releases the refrigerant, so when you turn the actuator, you don’t need to screw it down and then back up to release the coolant. Just screw it down while watching the gauge, when the needle goes to the yellow zone, you are releasing refrigerant. Back it off until the needle goes between the blue and yellow. At least I think that is what is best, if you open the actuator fully the needle will peg in the danger zone (which doesn’t seem like a good idea).
The A/C was making a breathing noise and doesn’t seem to get as cold as it used to. I checked the internet, the breathing noise is an indication that the refrigerant is low.
9-4-22 I checked the refrigerant in the afternoon at 106 deg. F and it read near 40 on the Gauge (I’m not sure the gauge is accurate), I expected it to be lower. I started the engine, turned the A/C on high, and reved the engine until it got as cold as it gets (53 deg. F) So I waited until morning, 85 deg. F and then gauge read 36 degrees.
I didn’t know how the new refrigerant cans worked, so I opened the actuator all the way and the needle pegged, then I closed it. I thought I was piercing the can and then releasing the refrigerant. But I just open it all the way and closed it. I shook the can a while nothing happened because I had closed the actuator valve. I eventually opened it and the needle shot up, so I turned it back to the start of the yellow zone and the can cooled like the refrigerant was charging (which I knew from the past).
I put the whole 8 oz. can in and the Gauge read around 40 psi.
I had a thermometer in the vent, it was at around 53 deg. F when I started, and went down to 45 deg. F after I charged it.
Product was easy to use.
Thanks
P.S. I changed the thermostat and everything works great.
